Granor Passi (Pty) Ltd, a leading fruit processor in South Africa, its Head Office situated in Polokwane (Limpopo), seeks to employ a Maintenance Manager at our Polokwane factory to monitor, control and direct the activities of the maintenance team and external contractors to ensure the smooth and efficient daily operation of all machinery and services for production.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Ensure that all machines, refrigeration systems, electrical systems and services are maintained to the standards of the company, either by subordinates or external contractors, in accordance with the Company’s planned maintenance system.
- Develop, implement and maintain effective preventative and predictive maintenance programmes to maximise equipment reliability, availability and operating life.
- Record and maintain all changes to the planned maintenance system and ensure that maintenance schedules are kept up to date.
- Ensure that all machine breakdowns are responded to promptly, effectively diagnosed and repaired safely, with root causes identified where applicable, and that machines are handed over to production in a clean, safe and operational condition.

- Plan and execute projects related to new product development, equipment improvements and productivity-saving initiatives within the agreed timetable and budget.
- Plan and coordinate annual shutdown and off-season maintenance programmes, ensuring that all work is properly planned, resourced and completed within the agreed timeframe and budget.
- Ensure that electrical, mechanical and refrigeration safety standards are followed and that safe working conditions exist in accordance with company policies and government regulations.
- Report unsafe machinery and unsafe work practices by engineering or production staff and, where necessary, implement corrective action.
- Ensure good housekeeping practices are maintained in workshop and maintenance areas and that all machines maintained or repaired are left in an acceptable, clean and safe condition.
- Actively participate in Occupational Health & Safety, Food Safety and Quality programmes, coordinate the activities of subordinates to meet the requirements of these programmes, and plan and execute the required actions.
- Monitor and manage maintenance performance through appropriate KPI’s, including equipment availability, breakdown hours, repeat failures, planned maintenance compliance, MTBF and MTTR.
- Investigate significant and recurring equipment failures and implement root-cause corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Identify, maintain and control critical spare parts to minimise production downtime and ensure availability of essential equipment.
- Manage and evaluate external maintenance contractors, including scope of work, quotations, performance, quality, safety and cost.
- Monitor the condition and remaining useful life of critical assets and make recommendations regarding repair, refurbishment or replacement.
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve equipment reliability, maintenance efficiency, energy efficiency and maintenance costs.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legal and statutory requirements and internationally accepted environmental, health, safety and quality standards.
- Manage the maintenance function within the approved timeframes and budget and actively identify opportunities for cost savings.
- Plan, select, develop and maintain suitable manpower capabilities for the function.
- Develop, lead and maintain a motivated, competent and high-performance maintenance team.
- Identify and timeously address functional-related problems and opportunities.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Provide technical direction, guidance and support to maintenance personnel and other relevant departments.
- Promote standardisation of maintenance practices, procedures, equipment and service providers across company facilities where applicable.
Desired Experience & Qualification
- N5 – N6 National Certificate in Engineering studies and Sec 13/26D Millwright trade or Degree/BTech in Engineering studies
- 5 years’ experience hands-on as a Millwright in a food environment, of which at least 3 years’ experience in management/supervisory capacity
- Computer literacy (MS office, Excel, Projects etc.)
- Valid driver’s license
- Fluent in English
