MAINTENANCE FOREMAN

ROLE PURPOSE Supervise the day-to-day execution of maintenance work within the General Engineering Services (GES) team, assigning and controlling work according to priority and schedule; ensuring it is executed safely, to standard and at minimum cost. The Maintenance Foreman uses backlog, downtime and budget reports as management tools, audits work methods, provides guidance and training to artisans and general hands, and oversees installations and contractors on small works projects as the operation transitions from project execution into steady-state operations. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Allocate, schedule and control the daily and weekly work of artisans, assistants and general hands in accordance with priority, the maintenance schedule and available resources, ensuring work is completed at minimum cost. Supervise the execution of planned, preventive, predictive and breakdown maintenance across plant, site infrastructure and facilities. Review and use backlog reports, downtime reports, work order histories and budget reports as management tools to direct resources, close out outstanding work and improve equipment and facilities availability. Audit work methods and workmanship in the field, enforce compliance with job cards, procedures, work instructions and engineering standards, and correct substandard practices. Oversee installations, modifications and small works projects, and manage contractors and service providers on site to ensure work is done safely, on schedule and to set standards. Carry out contractor control activities, including site inductions, permits to work, isolation and lock-out, supervision, quality checks, job close-out and performance feedback. Supervise the maintenance of facilities and site infrastructure, including boreholes and water reticulation, HVAC, solar installations, sewer and plumbing, fire detection and suppression systems, and electrical systems (LV, MV and HV, generators and ATS). Supervise the servicing and serviceability of mobile plant and light equipment, including LDVs, tractors and front-end loaders, ensuring service intervals, statutory inspections and defect management are adhered to. Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and system failures using appropriate testing and diagnostic tools and guide the team in fault finding and root cause elimination. Read and interpret technical documentation, including general arrangement drawings, blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams and equipment manuals, and ensure work is executed accordingly. Raise requisitions and control the issue, usage and safekeeping of spares, materials, consumables, tools and equipment, including custody registers, calibration and statutory testing. Conduct and participate in risk assessments, planned task observations, safety talks, inspections, incident investigations and close-out of corrective actions. Ensure compliance with the Mining (Management and Safety) Regulations (S.I. 109 of 1990) and the Factories and Works Act (Ch. 14:08) in all work executed under supervision. Maintain accurate engineering records, including job cards, equipment history, checklists, statutory registers, certificates and CMMS data. Compile and submit daily, weekly and monthly reports on work executed, downtime, backlog, manpower utilisation and material usage. Provide guidance, on-the-job training, coaching and performance feedback to employees, identify skills gaps and support development, discipline and succession planning within the team.
