Start free — we apply for you →ROLE PURPOSE Lead the General Engineering Services (GES) team in the safe and cost-effective execution of plant and services infrastructure maintenance; and oversee small works projects as the operation transitions from project execution into steady-state operations. The Maintenance Engineer ensures high equipment and facility availability, effective breakdown response, sound contractor management, disciplined spares and cost control, and the development of a competent, statutorily compliant maintenance workforce. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Lead the General Engineering Services team in the execution of planned, preventive, predictive and breakdown maintenance across plant, site infrastructure and facilities. Plan, coordinate and control site maintenance activities, installations, modifications and small works projects, ensuring work is executed safely, on time, within budget and to set engineering standards and specifications. Develop, implement and continuously improve maintenance procedures, work instructions, job cards, maintenance strategies, schedules and critical spares lists. Maintain and manage facilities and site infrastructure, including HVAC, boreholes and water reticulation, fire detection and suppression systems, sewer and plumbing, solar installations, and electrical infrastructure up to 33kV. Oversee the maintenance and serviceability of mobile plant and light equipment, including LDVs, tractors, front-end loaders and ancillary equipment, including service intervals, statutory inspections and defect management. Manage contractors, service providers and vendors engaged on maintenance and small works, including scope definition, technical evaluation, permits to work, site inductions, supervision, quality assurance, KPI monitoring and performance reviews. Manage parts and consumables inventory, including stock levels, reorder points, requisitions, receipting and issuing, obsolescence control and stock accuracy. Manage maintenance tools, workshops, stores and equipment, including calibration, statutory testing, safekeeping, custody registers and condition monitoring. Monitor and control maintenance costs against budget, prepare cost forecasts, motivate capital and operating expenditure, and drive cost-saving and efficiency initiatives. Ensure statutory and regulatory compliance in all engineering activities, including the Mining (Management and Safety) Regulations (S.I. 109 of 1990) and the Factories and Works Act (Ch. 14:08. Drive SHE performance within the maintenance function, including risk assessments, isolation and lock-out, working at heights, hot work, confined space entry, incident investigation and implementation of corrective actions. Ensure the integrity and availability of engineering records, including asset registers, equipment histories, drawings, manuals, statutory certificates and CMMS data. Provide technical support and troubleshooting to operations during breakdowns, ensuring effective coordination, prioritisation, escalation and timely restoration of services. Prepare and present maintenance performance reports, including availability, reliability, backlog, downtime analysis, cost variances and KPI dashboards for management reporting. Identify and implement continuous improvement, reliability and asset care initiatives to reduce downtime, extend asset life and improve life-cycle cost. Train, coach, mentor and appraise the GES team, including skills gap analysis, on-the-job training, succession planning and performance management.
