Introduction

A well-established engineering company specializing in the repair and refurbishment of electric motors, pumps, gearboxes, and industrial fans has a position available for a skilled and motivated Fitter Turner / Machinist to join their workshop team.

Duties & Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out precision machining operations on a variety of engineering components, including:

  • Operating conventional centre lathes, boring mills, milling machines, shapers.
  • Machining new components and refurbishing existing parts to fine tolerances. Machining to tolerance will be tested.
  • Must be able to read and use a micrometer.
  • Manufacturing and repairing shafts, sleeves, housings, bearing fits, and other mechanical components.
  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and measuring components accurately.
  • Maintaining a high standard of workmanship and quality control.
  • Able to work efficiently in a fast-paced engineering workshop, prioritising tasks to meet tight repair turnaround times without compromising quality or safety.
  • Working safely and ensuring machinery and work areas are kept clean and organised.
  • Assisting with general fitting and mechanical repair work where required.
  • Understanding of how the parts work and how they integrate into a machine.

Desired Experience & Qualification

  • Proven experience as a Fitter Turner or Machinist in an engineering or repair workshop.
  • Strong machining skills with experience on conventional lathes, milling machines, and boring mills.
  • Ability to machine components to close tolerances with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and use precision measuring equipment.
  • Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to work overtime when operational requirements demand.
  • Own reliable transport will be advantageous.
  • Applicants residing in the northern areas of Pretoria will be given preference.
  • A formal qualification is not essential; however, candidates will be required to demonstrate their machining ability through a practical test.
