Start free — we apply for you →PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: To provide technical and analytical optimisation of the metallurgy–logistics interface by integrating ore movement, stockpile control, plant feed requirements, recovery performance, grade consistency and logistics cost drivers. The role drives continuous improvement through data analysis, process design, transport and dispatch optimisation, and implementation of safe, cost-effective material handling solutions that improve recovery, efficiency and cost performance. PEOPLE: Supervise the Team: • Ensure an enabling climate/culture • Maintain labour stability by minimising labour turnover • Labour complement in line with budget • Manage performance against set targets and competencies • Ensure IDP’s are linked to performance results and implemented as per plan • Conduct career discussions and implement actions with all identified talent (quarterly) • Ensure discipline is maintained (absenteeism, lateness, overtime, misconduct, etc.) • Coach and counsel people to ensure improved performance levels • Conduct recruitment interviews. CUSTOMERS: • Ensure Customer Satisfaction • SLA’s • Key Customers: All Business Units, Plants, Smelters, Central Logistics, senior management, technical teams, contractors, transport operators and OEMs. BUSINESS PROCESSES: Process Reliability and Metallurgical Integration: • Analyse haulage, recovery, grade, stockpile, dispatch and plant feed data to identify inefficiencies, process constraints and improvement opportunities. • Conduct Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) on logistics and plant feed deviations and implement findings to improve process reliability. • Design and recommend optimal ore blending and stockpile strategies to maximise recovery, maintain grade targets and reduce grade fluctuations over time. • Develop and update logistics and plant feed strategies to optimise loading hours, truck turnaround time, equipment utilisation, overtime spend and correct-spec chrome ore dispatch in line with monthly loading requirements. • Integrate metallurgical KPIs into dispatch planning, stockpile management and reporting tools to support technical decision-making. Process Management: • Draw up daily dispatch plans to plants, smelters and central logistics in accordance with monthly requirements, actual versus budget performance and site-specific ore quality requirements. • Optimise transport scheduling to reduce cost per tonne hauled, truck waiting time, double handling and turnaround times. • Collect, analyse and interpret logistics, cost and metallurgical performance data and make technical recommendations to management. • Oversee stock holding, stock quality, blending, loading and dispatching of Chrome ore to ensure plant feed stability and customer requirements are met. • Oversee and monitor yellow equipment supplier machines in accordance with contracts and operational requirements. • Control and monitor shift changes to minimise ineffective time on site and support continuous material flow Project Management and Continuous Improvement: • Manage improvement and development projects focused on ore movement, plant feed integration, recovery improvement, logistics cost reduction and fleet utilisation. • Prepare analytical reports, optimisation proposals, process designs and implementation plans for technical and operational improvement initiatives. • projects. • Liaise with Plants, Smelters, Samancor Chrome Logistics, Transnet, transport operators, contractors and OEMs regarding material requirements, deliveries, equipment performance and technical GROWTH • Manage continuous improvement through Operational Excellence, with focus on metallurgy–logistics integration, recovery improvement, cost reduction and stable Chrome ore plant feed quality.
