Main Focus Areas

  • The Physiotherapist will provide holistic physiotherapy to in-patients requiring physiotherapy in the rehabilitation unit. The physiotherapists will provide an assessment of the patient's level of independence in mobility and need for an assistive device required for mobility on admission in the rehabilitation unit.

Key Performance Areas: include but are not limited to

  • Provide physiotherapy to in-patients who require physiotherapy including on some weekends and public Holiday.
  • Conduct assessments, plan and implement intervention to patients with e.g. neurological disorders such as TBI, CVA, SCI, orthopedic conditions or multi-morbidity conditions such as Guillain Barre, etc. in collaboration with other therapy disciplines.
  • Assess all Stroke patients and other relevant patients' mobility risks upon admission
  • Provide chest physiotherapy as required during work hours and after hours when requested by the rehabilitation medical officer.
  • Educate patients and their families about the patient's condition.
  • Participate in discharge planning and carer training.
  • Contribute to weekly team and family meetings.
  • Keep accurate and timeous records and reports.
  • Effectively respond to queries and handle accordingly.
  • Function effectively as a part of an interdisciplinary team to meet the requirements of quality patient care.
  • Attend and contribute towards Continuous Professional Development activities of the unit.
  • Supervision and training of university students, as required.
  • Promote and maintain sound and productive relationships with referral sources and stakeholders in the field of Rehabilitation.

Post Requirements: include but are not limited to

  • A Bachelor of Physiotherapy Degree
  • Registration with the Health Professional Council as a physiotherapy.
  • In good standing with HPCSA and all applicable health care legislations
  • Compulsory BLS certification
  • Ensure clinical expertise within therapy 1-5 years of clinical experience in an acute hospital setting
  • Experience with working with a multidisciplinary disciplinary team
  • Computer proficiency
  • Knowledge related managing and coordinating physiotherapy clinical practice and resources within the unit
  • Knowledge related to the implementation of the physiotherapy care plan, co-ordination and facilitation in the delivery of the treatment plan to achieve clinical outcomes.
