Private Residence – Muizenberg – Cape Town Accommodation: Living quarters on the property, provided as part of the position About the position They are looking for a reliable, mature and practical live-in House Manager / Property Caretaker to take responsibility for the day-to-day care, security and smooth running of a substantial private residence .

This is a relatively independent position. There is currently one gardener on the property, but no other household staff. The successful candidate will therefore become the main person responsible for ensuring that the house and property are well maintained and ready for the owners and their guests.

They are looking for someone with excellent character and references , who takes pride in a property and is comfortable being hands-on when necessary.

Main Responsibilities ·        Take overall day-to-day responsibility for the house and property. ·        Ensure the property is clean, orderly, secure and well maintained. ·        Carry out minor repairs and practical maintenance where appropriate. ·        Identify maintenance problems and inform of any issues. ·        Meet and supervise plumbers, electricians, pool technicians, delivery companies and other contractors. ·        Supervise and coordinate the gardener. ·        Arrange additional maintenance or gardening assistance when required. ·        Monitor security systems, gates, alarms and general property security. ·        Receive deliveries and provide access to authorised contractors and service providers. ·        Maintain basic inventories of household, maintenance and garden supplies. ·        Prepare the house before owners arrive. ·        Look after the property responsibly when the owners are away. ·        Assist with occasional entertaining and guests when required. ·        Dog and cat loving person as pets on the premises. ·        Handle occasional driving or errands if the candidate has a suitable driver’s licence. ·        Keep the owners informed of maintenance issues, security concerns and anything requiring attention.

The Ideal Candidate ·        Highly trustworthy, discreet and responsible ·        Mature and dependable ·        Legal status in South Africa ·        Practical and genuinely handy ·        Comfortable working independently without constant supervision ·        Experienced in looking after a substantial private property, guesthouse, lodge, estate or similar residence ·        Good at dealing with tradespeople and contractors ·        Well presented and polite ·        Comfortable around owners and guests ·        Organised and capable of taking initiative ·        A good communicator with a calm, helpful personality ·        Able to provide excellent references ·        Ideally in possession of a valid driver’s licence ·        Formal butler qualifications are not essential. ·        Practical ability, integrity, experience and a genuine sense of responsibility for a property are more important.

Working Arrangement The position is live-in, with private accommodation provided on the property. The successful candidate will have defined working hours and regular days off . Because the position is live-in, the candidate should be comfortable responding appropriately to genuine property emergencies outside normal hours, while maintaining a healthy separation between living on the property and being formally on duty.
