Job Title: Legal Intern. Location: Kempton Park.
Job Overview: We are looking for a motivated Legal Intern to join a lean, high-performing team where efficiency, resourcefulness, tenacity, innovation, mutual respect, and teamwork are core to how we operate. Working closely with the Legal Counsel Senior Manager and Legal Counsel Professional, the successful candidate will gain hands-on exposure to commercial legal practice within a fast-paced, multinational logistics and operations environment supporting the department in delivering superior legal services to stakeholders across the business.
Duties & Responsibilities
Minimum Requirements
- Essential
- Grade 12, together with a qualification in legal studies (paralegal studies, a diploma in a law discipline, or LLB) — completed or in progress.
- Articles of clerkship served in a law firm setting.
- At least 1 year of experience in a corporate legal environment.
- Exposure to the litigation lifecycle, preparing legal opinions, conducting gap analysis investigations, and corporate governance matters (including resolutions and board packs).
- Strong administrative and organisational skills, with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to manage confidential information with discretion.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and general technology use.
- Ability to prioritise multiple assignments and solve problems independently.
- A high level of emotional intelligence and strong written communication skills.
- Advantageous
- A completed LLB degree.
- Certification in shipping and logistics, corporate law, or insurance law.
- Experience in a fast-paced, multinational or logistics/operations environment.
- Experience supporting a large organisation across multiple locations.
- Understanding of South African commercial law and the shipping industry.
- Prior job-shadowing or work experience in a corporate, legal, or insurance setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Contract Administration & Lifecycle Management
- Conduct first-level reviews of non-disclosure agreements (NDAs), transporter agreements, and minor supplier agreements using an approved checklist.
- Collect executed agreements and save them in the relevant central document repositories.
- Ensure internal contract sign-off documentation is completed and signed by the relevant stakeholders for each concluded contract.
- Maintain contract registers and monitor expiry dates as part of the general contract lifecycle management process.
- Administer the DocuSign platform.
General Support
- Keep the legal business unit's central repository up to date, ensuring all historical records are filed and stored in an orderly manner.
- Assist the Legal Counsel Senior Manager and legal counsel professional in the discharge of the legal team's broader function.
