About the Role
VCB is looking for a motivated and commercially minded Legal Graduate to join the team and gain practical experience within a credit-focused business environment.
The successful candidate will provide junior-level legal and compliance support, with particular exposure to credit-related matters, consumer legislation, POPIA, legal research, contracts and regulatory compliance .
This is an excellent opportunity for a recent LLB graduate or junior legal professional looking to build a career within the credit and financial services environment.
Minimum Requirements
LLB degree or equivalent legal qualification.
0–2 years' relevant working experience.
Admission as an Attorney is not required.
Strong understanding of credit and credit-related legislation .
Good understanding of the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) .
Strong legal research and interpretation skills.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately.
Good organisational and administrative skills.
Ability to work independently while also collaborating with a broader team.
Proficient in Microsoft Office.
Advantageous Experience
Preference will be given to candidates who have exposure to
Credit providers or credit-related businesses.
Financial services or consumer finance.
Debt collection or credit management.
Consumer Protection Act (CPA).
National Credit Act (NCA).
POPIA and data privacy compliance.
Contract review and drafting.
Regulatory compliance.
Legal risk management.
Key Responsibilities
Credit & Legal Support
Provide legal support on credit-related matters.
Assist with reviewing and interpreting credit agreements and related documentation.
Conduct legal research relating to credit legislation and regulatory requirements.
Assist with identifying and assessing legal and regulatory risks.
Support the team with legal queries relating to credit and consumer matters.
Compliance & POPIA
Assist with maintaining compliance with applicable legislation and regulations.
Support POPIA-related compliance activities and data protection requirements.
Assist in identifying potential privacy and information-handling risks.
Maintain accurate legal and compliance records and documentation.
Contracts & Documentation
Assist with reviewing, drafting and maintaining agreements and legal documents.
Identify potential legal risks or areas requiring further review.
Ensure documentation is appropriately maintained and updated.
General Legal Support
Conduct legal research and prepare summaries of relevant legislation and case law.
Assist with preparing reports, correspondence and legal documentation.
Support senior legal and compliance stakeholders with ad hoc legal matters.
Keep up to date with developments in credit, consumer protection, privacy and related legislation.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a recent LLB graduate or junior legal professional with 0–2 years' experience who has a genuine interest in credit, financial services, consumer legislation and compliance .
Candidates who have gained their initial experience within a credit provider, financial services organisation, debt collection environment or similar regulated business would be particularly well suited to the role.
Important: This position is not intended for an admitted attorney . VCB is looking for a graduate/junior legal professional who can provide strong legal support while developing their practical commercial and credit-law experience.
