LEGAL GRADUATE – CREDIT & COMPLIANCE Location: Johannesburg Employment Type: Full-Time Experience: 0–2 Years
Our client is looking for a motivated and commercially minded Legal Graduate to join the team and gain practical experience within a credit-focused business environment. The successful candidate will provide junior-level legal and compliance support, with particular exposure to credit-related matters, consumer legislation, POPIA, legal research, contracts and regulatory compliance. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent LLB graduate or junior legal professional looking to build a career within the credit and financial services environment.
Minimum Requirements
- LLB degree or equivalent legal qualification
- 0–2 years' relevant working experience
- Admission as an Attorney is not required
- Strong understanding of credit and credit-related legislation
- Good understanding of the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA)
- Strong legal research and interpretation skills
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately
- Good organisational and administrative skills
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating with a broader team
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
Advantageous Experience Preference will be given to candidates who have exposure to:
- Credit providers or credit-related businesses
- Financial services or consumer finance
- Debt collection or credit management
- Consumer Protection Act (CPA)
- National Credit Act (NCA)
- POPIA and data privacy compliance
- Contract review and drafting
- Regulatory compliance
- Legal risk management
Key Responsibilities
- Credit & Legal Support
- Provide legal support on credit-related matters
- Assist with reviewing and interpreting credit agreements and related documentation
- Conduct legal research relating to credit legislation and regulatory requirements
- Assist with identifying and assessing legal and regulatory risks
- Support the team with legal queries relating to credit and consumer matters
- Compliance & POPIA • Assist with maintaining compliance with applicable legislation and regulations
- Support POPIA-related compliance activities and data protection requirements
- Assist in identifying potential privacy and information-handling risks
- Maintain accurate legal and compliance records and documentation
- Contracts & Documentation
- Assist with reviewing, drafting and maintaining agreements and legal documents. • Identify potential legal risks or areas requiring further review.
