Teaching and Learning
- Plan and facilitate a range of learning activities, i.e., tutorials, practical classes, demonstrations, workshops, field excursions, etc., to support student engagement and achievement.
- Initiation and development of subject material.
- Teach undergraduate and postgraduate classes.
- Effective teaching methods and strategies, such as explaining concepts clearly, structuring lessons well, checking for understanding, and adapting your approach to help students learn.
- Provide strong mentoring to students.
- Engage in scholarly and subject-related work.
- Actively participate in discipline-related teaching and learning conferences, workshops, and excellence award programmes to stay current and contribute to the broader academic community.
- Monitor and report on student success rates per module, taking appropriate action to support student throughput.
- Teaching modules with the Labour Relations Management LARM / Human Resource Management HRMA programme on pre-graduate and postgraduate level.
Development of course material and supervision
- Develop and deliver lectures and seminars.
- Develop and initiate course material to ensure content is current, relevant, and academically rigorous.
- Supervise postgraduate students engaged in coursework and research programmes.
- Consultation with students.
Research and Innovation
- Actively participate in research activities relevant to the discipline, contributing to the broader knowledge base of the School.
- Engage with the research or creative practice component of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, supporting students in developing research skills and academic inquiry.
- Contribute to a research culture within the school by attending colloquiums, seminars, collaborating with colleagues, and staying current with developments in the field.
Community Engagement
- Engage with the broader community through activities such as media commentary, public education initiatives, and outreach programmes that reflect the expertise and values of the School.
- Pursue and acknowledge awards, prizes, or grants that recognise meaningful service and contribution at a local, national, or international level.
- Demonstrate academic citizenship by actively participating in initiatives that benefit a specific community, whether within the institution, the discipline, or society at large.
Ad Hoc
- Responsible for all administrative tasks regarding the above.
- Student marks and assessments.
- Align module outcomes and assessments across campuses.
- Share responsibility for the committee and subject-related assignments as required.
- Internal and external moderation of assessments.
- Participate in programme, school and/or faculty meetings.
- Develop and maintain relationships with industry stakeholders and professional bodies.
- Additional tasks as delegated by the line manager, in line with the scope of the role, and as operational needs may require.
Minimum requirements
- Proven research in Labour Relations Management or Human Resource Management.
In addition to the above
LECTURER
- A Master's degree in Labour Relations Management NQF level 9.
- A minimum of two 2 years' experience as lecturer, development of teaching content, examiner/ moderator.
- A minimum of 1–2 years of experience in evidence-based postgraduate supervision.
SENIOR LECTURER
- A PhD in Labour Relations Management NQF level 10.
- A minimum of three 3 years' experience as lecturer, development of teaching content, examiner/ moderator.
- Applicants should have at least 1 Master's student to completion.
ADDED ADVANTAGES
- Professional membership with the South African Board of People Practices SABPP and/or the South African Society for Labour Law SASLAW.
- A minimum of 1 – 2 years' proven experience as Labour Relations Practitioner.
- Drafted own PhD proposal Lecturer level .
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES
- Computer literacy in MS Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Proven pre-graduate and postgraduate qualifications in Labour Relations Management or Human Resource Management.
- A proven commitment to teaching and learning, including a willingness to become involved in students' educational development and wellbeing.
- Knowledge of modern platforms e.g. whiteboard technology, eFundi, etc. to enhance the ongoing changing of the learning and collaboration environment.
- Proven experience with conducting training and meetings using virtual platforms such as Zoom/ MS Teams etc.
- Knowledge of research methods relevant to the field of Labour relations management.
- Proven track record in post-graduate supervision, demonstrated by the successful supervision of at least one Master's student through to completion, with the degree formally awarded on Senior Lecturer level.
- A proven research track record, evidenced by the publication of at least one peer-reviewed article in accredited journals within the relevant discipline on senior lecturer level.
- Proven research ability in labour relations management with own research PhD level, proposal for PhD and to supervise honour's mini-dissertations.
ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE FUNCTIONAL / TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Proven experience as Labour Relations practitioner
- Registered membership with SABPP.
