Lecturer- Urban and Regional Planning

Job Requirements

• A Masters degree in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Urban Design, or Infrastructure Planning and Design. This is a prerequisite. A PhD in these fields is an added advantage.
• At least three years' relevant experience in a planning environment.
• Registration or membership [or registrable] to a relevant professional body such as South African Council for Architects SACA, Engineering Council of South Africa ECSA etc. is a requirement.
• Competency in application and use of core urban design, landscape architecture and infrastructure planning and design standard tools for Drafting and Building Information Modelling; 3D Modelling; GIS and Mapping; Visual graphics, Rendering and Emerging AI tech including AutoCAD, Revit, ArchiCAD, SketchUp, ArcGIS, QGIS, Adobe Creative Suite, MATLAB or equivalent open-source software.
• Competency in cartography, cartographical analysis, landscape analysis, auto-photo analysis, carrying and supervising fieldwork and laboratory practicals, on-site planning, site analysis, urban design, building plans, building surveys, land use analysis, drawing and drafting skills is required.
• Ability to produce design work and showcasing analytical thinking through graphic representations of built-environment projects.
• Competency in the use of drone and a 3-D printer is an added advantage.
• Ability to carry out and supervise fieldwork and laboratory practicals.
• Must possess good fieldwork report writing skills.
• Good interpersonal skills, and team skills.
• Good communication skills.

Duties

• Teaching and supervision of students in both undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
• Teaching studio related research and practical modules focusing on infrastructure planning and development, urban design, site planning and design, landscape design
• Compilation of professional fieldwork reports and urban design portfolios.
• Accompanying students on practicals.
