The Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Johannesburg, seeks to appoint a qualified and registered Lecturer in the field of Immunohaematology/ Clinical Pathology who will actively contribute to teaching and learning, research, community outreach, and CPD development, in line with the University of Johannesburg's vision, mission, and goals. The New Generation of Academics Programme (nGAP) is a Department of Higher Education and Training-funded programme that recruits a new cohort of young academics. The programme is transformative in nature, and priority is given to designated candidates. Candidates must be 40 years and younger. The programme enables nGAP appointments to benefit from teaching and research development opportunities and requires the incumbent to register for their PhD or Postdoctoral studies. The successful candidate is expected to undertake undergraduate teaching and research supervision, contribute to the development and review of undergraduate teaching and curricula, and participate in community outreach and CPD activities, in line with the discipline/departmental objectives.

Responsibilities

• Teaching undergraduates using diverse methods in the Department of Biomedical Sciences.
• Actively involved in core activities of the department such as academic administration, course development, consulting, and community-related projects.
• Supervise BHS students' projects and actively participate in the research focus areas of the Department, producing outputs such as journal papers.
• Facilitate teaching and learning within the domain of Biomedical Sciences.
• Facilitate theory and practice integration.
• Annually publish peer-reviewed papers in accredited scientific and/or academic journals and deliver papers at national and international conferences.

Desired Experience & Qualification

• A Master's (NQF 9) qualification in Health Sciences with a 70% average pass mark.
• A Minimum of two (2) years’ lecturing experience at university level and at least 3 years' experience in clinical practice in the field of Immunohaematology/ Clinical Pathology.
• Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as a Medical Technologist/ Medical Laboratory Scientist, with a specialisation in Immunohaematology/ Clinical Pathology.
• Evidence of community and/or industry involvement would be beneficial.

Recommendations

• A PhD (NQF 10) qualification in Biomedical Science or PhD candidate.
• Experience in clinical supervision of students.
• A track record of post-graduate research publication.
• Innovative teaching techniques incorporating blended learning.
