PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
- The candidate will be responsible for lecturing undergraduate and/or postgraduate statistics modules and can also be expected to be involved in the development of new modules. Other duties include the supervision of honours students.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Teaching and Learning
- Presenting undergraduate and postgraduate statistics modules. Development of new modules.
Research and Innovation
- Supervision of honours students and studying towards a PhD degree/supervision of postgraduate students.
Money stream 3
- Participate in other money stream 3 endeavours, such as the presentation of short courses.
Administration/Management
- Help with administrative and management tasks within the subject group.
Minimum requirements
- A master's degree in Mathematical Statistics or equivalent NQF level 9.
- A minimum of three 3 years' experience in teaching undergraduate and honours mathematical statistics courses.
ADDED ADVANTAGE
- Applicants must be registered for a PhD in Mathematical Statistics or equivalent NQF level 10.
- Membership with the South African Statistical Association SASA.
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES
- Present both undergraduate and postgraduate mathematical statistics modules
- Act as group coordinator for modules with multiple groups.
- Handle large undergraduate classes.
- Supervise honours students.
- Communicate well in English verbally and in writing.
- Provide guidance with regards to data collection.
- Analyse data using advanced statistical techniques by means of suitable statistical computer packages such as SAS, R, SPSS and STATISTICA.
BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES
- Work independently, but also as a team.
- Have very good people skills.
- Professional and ethical behaviour.
- Be able to act as a mentor for junior staff.
REMUNERATION
- The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
