- The department wants to fill a vacancy at the level of Lecturer within the broad area of Geology and its Engineering applications, Mineralogy and Geometallurgy; this position is based at DFC. The demonstrated potential ability to contribute towards the research within CIMERA will be considered a benefit.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate must
- Be able to lecture and teach large groups at undergraduate level.
- Prepare and deliver undergraduate practical and laboratory sessions.
- Design, administer, assess, evaluate, and moderate theoretical and practical assessments.
- Travel between campuses as required.
- Participate in multi-day field schools and field-based teaching activities.
- Conduct research and publish outputs in accredited scholarly journals.
- Supervise postgraduate students and contribute to postgraduate training.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence, innovation, and research productivity.
- Perform academic, administrative, and departmental duties required by the Department of Geology and the Faculty of Science.
- Contribute to departmental initiatives, including research activities, academic administration, marketing, community engagement, short-course development, and the maintenance of departmental facilities and equipment.
Minimum requirements
- An MSc in Geology or related field.
- Demonstrated ability to teach Geology-related subjects at undergraduate level.
- Experience in theoretical and practical undergraduate teaching.
- Ability to prepare and conduct practical laboratory sessions.
- Published scientific articles in accredited subject-related journals.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Computer literacy.
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching and research excellence.
Recommendations
- Preferably a PhD degree or in final stages of submission.
- Experience in working with Student Assistants, Laboratory Demonstrators and Tutors.
- Experience in administrative and laboratory organization.
- Experience in handling large classes.
- Experience in Moodle LMS or related E-teaching platform and blended learning techniques.
- Postgraduate supervisory and teaching experience.
- A valid driver's license.
