Job purpose

  • Lecture in Strategic Communication.

Teaching

  • Lecture undergraduate semester modules in Strategic Communication and Public Relations including Work Integrated Learning modules, if required.
  • Lecture honours modules in Strategic Communication.
  • Lecture the Advance Diploma in Communication Management modules.
  • Not limited to, the development of study guides and Moodle content, physical teaching, possible online/hybrid teaching.
  • The development of assessments, marking, managing tutors, designing tutorial activities, marks capturing and performing administrative tasks associated with lecturing as required.
  • Submit student marks before departmental due dates.
  • Develop and promote the modules in Strategic Communication and Public Relations.
  • Ensure adequate support for the students through monitoring at risk students and consultations.

Supervision

  • Actively promote postgraduate studies in Strategic Communication and Public Relations among students and other parties.
  • Supervise Honours research essays to completion.
  • Supervise Masters candidates to completion.

Research

  • Conduct research resulting in published output in reputable, accredited journals.
  • Present papers at reputable academic conferences at both local and international level.

Administration

  • Carry out administrative tasks as required by UJ's policies and regulations and the department of Strategic Communication.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and activities.

Minimum requirements

  • A Master's degree NQF 9 in Strategic Communication or related discipline.
  • Two 2 years' lecturing experience in Strategic Communication or a related discipline.
  • One 1 year postgraduate supervision experience.

Recommendations

  • Relevant industry experience.
  • A Doctoral degree NQF 10 in Strategic Communication or a related field.
