Job Purpose

  • Contribute to the Department and Faculty's goals in teaching, research, community engagement/administration, and work integrated learning.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Lecturer

  • A Master's degree in Nutritional Sciences or equivalent
  • Base qualification in Consumer Science or equivalent
  • At least two years' working experience one of which must be in teaching

Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities

  • Ability to teach and assess various topics in the Consumer Science Programme, specifically Nutrition, Food Science with basic culinary/practical experience, New Product Development, Food-related legislation e.g. labelling, food hygiene, health and safety in line with relevant legislation, Research Methodologies, Sensory Evaluation, Quality Control
  • Curriculum and programme development
  • Quality Assurance
  • Evaluation and development of learning material
  • Academic administration
  • Academic development and management
  • Monitor and assess work integrated learning
  • Industrial alliance and partnerships and community engagement
  • Research record
  • Assist with marketing and recruitment strategies
  • Perform other functions as may be assigned by the Head of Department

  • Department and Programme Administration - Knowledge of curriculum design and development
  • Student support and development - proven record in tracking student progress, supporting and coaching underperforming students
  • Liaising with and reporting to institutional bodies and committees
  • Sourcing, preparing motivation for, and securing research funding
  • A track record of research leadership and competence in conceiving research projects by identifying needs in the Food and Nutrition sector
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills to coordinate postgraduate and undergraduate supervision
  • Ability to work within a diverse team of academics and laboratory technicians
