- Participating in the selection and administration of postgraduate students in the CBCB.
- Teaching modules in Bioinformatics at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
- Continuously updating undergraduate and postgraduate curricula to reflect advances in bioinformatics.
- Becoming involved in the administration of undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes, ensuring their smooth operation.
- Participating in the general operation of the CBCB as arranged with the Director.
- Establishing and building a research group, preferably focused on the development and application of machine learning and AI in advancing understanding in biology.
- Supervising BSc Honours, MSc and PhD students.
- Showing potential to successfully compete for research funding at both local and international levels.
- Establishing a collaborative research network within the University as well as nationally and internationally.
Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes
- MSc to be appointed at Junior Lecturer level or PhD to be appointed at Lecturer level in Bioinformatics.
- Proficiency in Python and R.
- The ability to communicate fluently in English.
- Evidence of publishing in respected journals.
- For appointment at Lecturer level, the candidate must have successfully graduated BSc Hons and MSc students in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology.
Recommendation/Aanbeveling
- Significant knowledge of machine learning and AI.
- Proficiency in additional programming languages such as C, C++ and Java.
- Active footprint on GitHub.
- Proficiency in Linux OS and the use of a high-performance computer cluster.
- Knowledge of SQL and database design.
