KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Teaching and Learning

  • Take responsibility for the teaching of Academic Literacy and/or Critical and Analytical Thinking Skills
  • Carry out related duties, i.e. marking, guided development of assessments and learning materials.
  • Keep class discipline and adhere to all the requirements for the administration of the modules as required by the NWU rules and policy.

Research

  • Contribute towards the research output of the Centre for Literacy Studies and the assigned research entity.

Academic Leadership And Administration

  • Fulfil management tasks and duties in service of the university as they arise.
  • Good organisational and administrative skills.

Community Engagement

  • Involvement in community service projects.

Occupational Health And Safety

  • Cooperate with management, OHS officials and colleagues to help everyone meet the legal requirements, whilst upholding and maintaining general occupational health and safety standards and practices.

Minimum requirements

  • A Masters' degree NQF level 9 in Afrikaans or English Linguistics or Applied Linguistics or related field.
  • A minimum of two 2 years' lecturing experience.

KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES

  • Fundamental knowledge of the fields of Academic Literacy and Critical and Analytical Thinking Skills.
  • Excellent Afrikaans and English language and communication skills.
  • Excellent level of computer literacy MS Office, internet, email
  • Excellent level of LMS development.
  • Knowledge of new and innovative teaching methods: e-learning, multimedia and classroom practice.

BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES

  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Professional work ethic.
  • Student support experience e.g. SI facilitation, tutoring, peer mentoring.
  • Passionate about language teaching and learning.
