PURPOSE OF THE POSITION To provide specialised technical support for BioMMet's LC-MS research platforms by ensuring the reliable operation, maintenance, quality control and optimal utilisation of instrumentation, while supporting postgraduate research, user training, and laboratory compliance. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Operational activities

• Pre-analytical and analytical processing of research samples and equipment maintenance. Research and Innovation

• Assistance with method development and improvement of analytical capabilities. Teaching and Learning

• Pre- and post-graduate student training on specialized research equipment. Laboratory Administration

• Effective and efficient inventory management. Quality control

• Adhering to ISO 17025 standards where applicable. Ad hoc tasks

• As directed by the Research Director. Occupational Health and Safety

Desired Experience & Qualification

• A diploma / advanced certificate in Biochemistry/Analytical chemistry (NQF level 6). • A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in basic laboratory management and operations. • A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC-MS). • A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in training staff and students on Liquid Chromatography–Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS). ADDED ADVANTAGE:

• Memberships with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:

• Advanced knowledge of liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) – application and maintenance • Excellent computer skills with proven competency in mass spectrometric data processing • Record keeping of equipment booking, usage logs, results and quality documentation • Knowledge of liquid-liquid - and solid phase extraction • Strong analytical and problem-solving skill • Language proficient in a multi-lingual environment. REMUNERATION: The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
