Junior/Intermediate Software Developer

Location: Westville, Durban

Working arrangement: Fully office-based, Monday to Friday

An established technology business in Westville has recently launched a dedicated software development division and is looking for a promising Junior or early Intermediate Software Developer to join its growing team.

The division is led by a highly experienced development consultant with an extensive background in large-scale software and retail environments. The successful candidate will work closely with this senior developer, gaining valuable exposure, mentorship and the opportunity to contribute to several active customer projects.

This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate developer who has already gained some practical workplace experience—whether through permanent employment, an internship, a graduate programme or a short-term contract—and is now ready to develop their career in a hands-on commercial environment.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with the design, development, testing and maintenance of web-based software solutions.

• Write clean, reliable and maintainable code using C# and .NET.

• Work with SQL databases, including queries, data extraction and troubleshooting.

• Participate in the development and deployment of solutions within the Microsoft Azure environment.

• Use Azure DevOps for source control, task management and deployment processes.

• Investigate and resolve application defects and technical issues.

• Assist with system enhancements, integrations and new customer projects.

• Participate in code reviews, technical discussions and project planning.

• Maintain appropriate technical documentation.

• Work closely with senior developers and other stakeholders to understand business and customer requirements.

• Contribute ideas and explore practical ways of incorporating AI-enabled functionality into customer solutions.

Key Requirements

Minimum requirements

• A completed degree or diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Development or a closely related field.

• Some commercial software development experience gained through permanent employment, a graduate programme, internship or contract assignment.

• Practical exposure to C#, .NET and SQL .

• An understanding of web application development.

• Familiarity with Git, source control and the software development lifecycle.

• A genuine interest in Microsoft technologies and cloud-based development.

• Candidates must live within reasonable daily travelling distance of Westville and be comfortable working in the office five days a week.

Advantageous experience

• Microsoft Azure.

• Azure DevOps.

• Developing or maintaining APIs and system integrations.

• Front-end web technologies such as HTML, CSS and JavaScript.

• Building AI-enabled features, tools or customer solutions.

• Personal development projects or an active GitHub portfolio.
