Are you passionate about fashion, commercially minded and eager to build your career in the fast-paced world of mass-market fashion ?

A Johannesburg-based fashion company is looking for an enthusiastic and highly organised Trainee / Junior Fashion Designer to join our team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or junior designer who wants hands-on experience across the full fashion product development process — from trends and design concepts through to samples, production and administration.

The Role

Working closely with our design and product team, you will assist with:

  • Researching current and upcoming fashion trends, colours, prints and silhouettes
  • Creating mood boards, trend boards and design concepts
  • Assisting with garment designs and ranges for the commercial mass market
  • Preparing basic technical drawings, specifications and product information
  • Assisting with fabric, trim and colour selections
  • Managing and tracking samples and approvals
  • Liaising with suppliers and following up on outstanding information
  • Maintaining product files, range information and design documentation
  • Capturing and updating information accurately on spreadsheets and internal systems
  • General administrative support to the design and product team
  • Helping ensure deadlines and critical timelines are met

What We're Looking For

  • Qualification in Fashion Design, Clothing Management or a related field
  • Graduate, trainee or junior-level candidates are welcome to apply
  • A genuine interest in commercial and mass-market fashion
  • Good understanding of fashion trends and the ability to translate trends into wearable, saleable product
  • Strong computer skills
  • Comfortable working with Excel/spreadsheets, email and administrative systems
  • Adobe Illustrator and/or Photoshop skills would be advantageous
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills
  • Confident communication and follow-up skills
  • Ability to work accurately and manage multiple tasks and deadlines

Important: You Need to Enjoy the Admin Too!

Fashion design in a commercial environment isn't only about sketching beautiful clothes.

A large part of this position involves organisation, spreadsheets, product information, sample tracking, supplier follow-ups, deadlines and attention to detail .

We're looking for someone who is equally comfortable being creative and being organised .
