The role

  • We need a junior engineer to help build and maintain the systems that process millions of bill payments a day. You'll work close to production code from week one; fixing bugs, shipping small features and learning how a high-volume payments platform actually runs. This isn't a training-wheels role: you'll ship real code into a live system, with support from senior engineers around you.

What you'll own

  • Build and ship small-to-medium features across the EasyPay payments stack
  • Fix bugs reported from production and QA, from root cause to deployed fix
  • Write unit and integration tests for the code you write
  • Take part in code reviewsboth giving and receiving feedback
  • Investigate and help resolve production issues alongside senior engineers
  • Keep documentation for the systems you touch up to date

What you bring

  • 0-2 years' professional software development experience, or a strong portfolio from personal/academic projects
  • Working knowledge of at least one modern language e.g. C#, Java, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript
  • Understanding of relational databases and SQL
  • Familiarity with Git and collaborative development workflows
  • Ability to debug unfamiliar code and ask good questions when stuck
  • A CS degree, diploma, or equivalent bootcamp/self-taught background

Nice to have

  • Exposure to REST APIs or microservices
  • Experience with cloud platforms Azure, AWS
  • Interest in payments, fintech, or high-volume transactional systems

Our culture — what we expect from you

  • Lesaka is a fast-paced fintech. The people who thrive here have a few things in common:
  • Ownership: You don't wait to be asked. If something is broken or unclear, you call for the ball and fix it.
  • Fast adaptation: Priorities shift, markets move, regulations change. You don't flinch — you re-plan and move.
  • Execution mindset: Ideas are cheap. Shipping is the job. You walk slow, run fast: think it through, then move with urgency.
  • Customer first: The merchant, consumer or enterprise client is why we exist. Your decisions trace back to them.
