Junior Risk and Compliance Analyst (Legal) | UK-Based Law Firm | Fully Remote

Introduction

A prestigious UK-based Law Firm is seeking a Junior Risk & Compliance Analyst (Legal) to join its international Risk & Compliance team. This is an exciting opportunity for a South African legal, risk or compliance professional looking to develop their expertise within a global legal environment.

The successful candidate will support legal risk management, AML, sanctions screening, client due diligence, conflicts, client onboarding, compliance monitoring and regulatory processes, working closely with fee earners, paralegals and business functions.

This role is ideally suited to a detail-oriented, analytical, proactive and highly organised individual with 1–2 years’ experience in a law firm environment and a relevant tertiary qualification in Law, Risk or Compliance.

Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

• Review open and closed client matters to ensure records are accurate, complete and up to date.

• Update the firm's case management system with relevant risk and compliance information.

• Assist with drafting low-risk client and matter risk assessments.

• Support client onboarding and due diligence processes by reviewing and verifying identification and supporting documentation.

• Conduct PEP, sanctions and adverse media screening, escalating potential concerns where required.

• Assist with conflict checks and review basic conflict check results.

• Liaise with fee earners, attorneys and paralegals to obtain outstanding compliance documentation and information.

• Maintain accurate compliance records, supporting documentation and electronic filing systems.

• Assist with retrospective compliance reviews and spot checks on clients and matters.

• Support the Risk & Compliance team with regulatory, policy and procedural updates.

• Assist the Risk & Compliance Manager with compliance projects, process improvements and other risk-related initiatives.

• Monitor the progress of outstanding compliance requirements and follow up to ensure matters are completed within required timeframes.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Minimum Requirements

• Tertiary qualification in Law, Risk Management, Compliance or a related field.

• 1–2 years' experience within a law firm environment – essential.

• Previous exposure to a legal Risk & Compliance function is highly advantageous.

• Knowledge or exposure to AML, KYC, CDD, sanctions, PEP screening, adverse media and conflict checking advantageous.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to confidently liaise with clients, attorneys, fee earners, paralegals and colleagues at all levels.

• Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment.

• Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet time-sensitive deadlines and take ownership of delegated responsibilities.

• Excellent technical and administrative skills.

• Strong analytical ability and exceptional attention to detail.

• A proactive, self-motivated and solutions-focused approach.

• Ability to work effectively within a busy, collaborative and international remote team.
