We are looking for an entry-level / very junior Quantity Surveyor to join our team, based in Lansdowne, Cape Town. This is an excellent opportunity for a candidate at the start of their QS career to gain hands-on experience across measurement, cost control, documentation, and site-based work, while being mentored by senior team members.
Duties & Responsibilities
Duties include, but are not limited to
- Assist with basic quantity take-offs and measurement from drawings
- Help prepare Bills of Quantities (BOQs) under the supervision of a senior QS
- Assist with cost estimating, budgeting and cost tracking on projects
- Support the preparation of interim valuations and payment certificates
- Assist with tender documentation, distribution and basic analysis
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date project cost records, filing and documentation
- Conduct site visits to check progress, verify measurements and record site information
- Liaise professionally with site staff, contractors, suppliers and the project team
- Assist with variation orders, claims and general contract administration
- Provide general administrative support to the senior QS / contracts team
- Carry out any other reasonable duties as required by the role
Desired Experience & Qualification
- National Diploma / BTech in Quantity Surveying, Construction Studies or related Built Environment field — completed, or currently studying part-time (final-year students and recent graduates are strongly encouraged to apply)
- Very junior / entry-level role — 0 to 2 years' experience; candidates fresh out of their studies or moving up from a QS assistant, BOQ/measurement clerk, site admin or estimator's assistant role are ideal
- Professional registration with SACQSP is not required for this role
- A little exposure to, or basic knowledge of, site visits is an advantage
- Valid Code B driver's licence — essential
- Own, reliable roadworthy vehicle — essential, for regular site visits
- Based in, or willing and able to commute daily to, the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town
- Sober habits and a clean-living lifestyle
- Reliable, punctual and trustworthy
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal
- Competent in MS Excel and MS Word; exposure to QS software (e.g. CCS, WinQS, Buildsoft) is an advantage but not essential
- Eager to learn, with a positive, can-do attitude
- Clear criminal record
Package & Remuneration
R15k to R18k pm CTC depending on experience
