To provide cost management and contractual support on electrical construction and reticulation projects (e.g., LV/MV/HV reticulation, substations, overhead and underground cabling, street lighting, electrical infrastructure installations), under the guidance of a senior QS, ensuring projects are delivered within budget and in accordance with contractual requirements.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist in preparing Bills of Quantities (BOQs) for electrical construction and reticulation works
- Measure electrical works from drawings and specifications (cabling, trenching, substations, transformers, poles, fittings, etc.)
- Assist with pricing and cost estimating for tenders and projects
- Prepare and process interim payment certificates/valuations
- Track and manage variation orders and site instructions
- Assist in compiling and reconciling material and subcontractor accounts
- Support procurement processes, including obtaining and comparing supplier/subcontractor quotes
- Maintain accurate project cost records and cost reports
- Assist with final account preparation and close-out documentation
- Conduct site visits to verify progress and quantities installed
- Liaise with site engineers, project managers, contractors, and suppliers
- Ensure compliance with relevant standards (e.g., SANS, NRS, municipal/Eskom requirements where applicable)
- Assist in contract administration under standard forms of contract (e.g., JBCC, NEC, GCC)
Desired Experience & Qualification
Minimum Requirement
- National Diploma or Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or related field
- Electrical engineering/electrical construction background advantageous;
- 0–2 years' experience in quantity surveying (graduate/candidate QS level acceptable)
- Exposure to electrical construction, reticulation, or infrastructure projects is an advantage
Skills & Competencies
- Basic understanding of electrical construction methods and reticulation systems
- Proficiency in MS Excel; exposure to QS software (e.g., CCS Candy, Buildsmart) advantageous
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and specifications
- Strong numerical and analytical skills
- Good communication and report-writing skills
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Willingness to travel to site as required
- Valid driver's license for business travel
Package & Remuneration
R20 000-00 - R25 000.00 CTC per month (depending on qualifications and experience)
