We're Hiring: Junior-Mid VR/XR Specialist (Project Contract)

Looking for a technically curious, hands-on Junior-Mid VR/XR developer to join our XR Development team and help us build immersive, interactive training experiences.

This is a development and implementation role for someone who already has a foundation in Unity and XR development but is still building their technical depth and practical experience.

You'll work alongside experienced XR Developers and Craft Specialists, contributing to real client projects while developing your skills across Unity development, XR interactions, UI, testing, deployment and simulator environments.

We're looking for someone who wants more than just a development job --- we want someone who is excited about learning the craft, solving problems and progressively growing into a highly capable XR Developer.

What you'll be responsible for

Supporting the development and implementation of VR/XR applications and experiences in Unity.

Completing assigned development and implementation tasks under the guidance of more experienced XR Developers.

Assisting with scene setup, asset integration, object placement and project preparation.

Implementing and supporting XR interactions, object behaviours, controls and gameplay functionality.

Building and configuring menus, prompts, indicators and other UI elements.

Supporting visual, audio, animation and interaction feedback systems.

Participating in usability, interaction and functionality testing.

Assisting with bug fixing, debugging and resolving assigned technical issues.

Supporting build preparation, implementation validation and deployment activities.

Working with repositories, SDKs, project structures and development workflows used across TBR projects.

Following established coding standards, naming conventions, project structures and version-control practices.

Collaborating with XR, Animation, 3D Art, Learning Design, QA, Production and project delivery teams.

Communicating progress, blockers and support requirements clearly to senior developers and project teams.

Participating in technical discussions, workshops, demonstrations and knowledge-sharing opportunities.

Supporting client-site testing, commissioning and deployment activities where required.

What we're looking for

Must have

A relevant qualification, certificate, diploma or demonstrated practical training/experience in Software Development, Game Development, Interactive Media, Computer Science, XR/VR Development or a related field.

Practical working knowledge of Unity.

Working knowledge of C#.

An understanding of object-oriented programming and core software-development principles.

Some practical experience developing interactive applications, games, VR/AR experiences or similar Unity-based projects.

An understanding of XR interaction principles, including object interactions, controls and user interfaces.

Basic knowledge of debugging and resolving development issues.

Familiarity with Git or another version-control system.

Ability to work within an existing codebase, project structure and established development standards.

Strong problem-solving ability and willingness to learn from more experienced developers.

Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary project team.

Advantageous / Bonus Skills

Experience with the XR Interaction Toolkit.

Experience with OpenXR.

Previous development experience with VR headsets or XR hardware.

Experience with WebGL.

Experience with Android build systems and deployment.

Familiarity with Azure DevOps.

Experience using Visual Studio and/or Rider.

Exposure to simulator development or immersive training applications.

Exposure to Raspberry Pi, Arduino, controllers, sensors or peripheral systems.

Basic understanding of PLCs, hardware communication or simulator integration.

Exposure to motion platforms or simulator control systems.

Experience with performance optimisation for VR/XR applications.

Experience working in multidisciplinary teams involving developers, 3D artists, animators or instructional designers.

The person we're looking for

We're not looking for someone who already knows everything.

We're looking for someone who has a solid development foundation, genuine technical curiosity and the drive to keep improving.

You should enjoy figuring out

How do I make this interaction feel better?

Why isn't this behaviour working as expected?

How can I make this implementation cleaner and more reliable?

What can I learn from the senior developer reviewing my work?

How does the software connect with the wider simulator or XR experience?

You'll be given real responsibility, but you'll also have access to Senior XR Developers and Craft Specialists for technical guidance and mentorship as your capability grows.

The role is designed to provide progressive exposure to increasingly complex XR development, technical problem-solving, simulator environments and hardware integration --- building the skills and experience required to progress through TBR's XR craft structure.

If you already have a foundation in Unity and C#, love immersive technology, enjoy solving technical problems and want to develop your career in VR, XR and simulation, we'd love to hear from you.
