Duties & Responsibilities
Strategic Component
- Responsible for diverse technical areas including equipment and component maintenance strategy selection, equipment maintenance cost modelling and replacements, life cycle analysis, operational risk management, and the re-engineering of equipment for reliability improvement with a goal of down time reduction and maximum plant and equipment reliability.
Operations / Maintenance Engineering
- Planning (Maintenance Business Plan) including:
- Manager objectives and development planning [Life cycle of equipment and facilities]
- Ensure all equipment/assets initiatives and processes related to mechanical machinery, installations and modifications are in conformance with OHSA (Act 85 of 1993) ) as a GMR 2.7(a) for Electrical machinery and reticulation systems
- Resource decisions - Manages organisation structure, including external resources and related service agreements
- Adhere to planned capital budget and manages maintenance operational budget that relates to mechanical systems focus
- Organising – Manage maintenance work procedures and ensure standard of work is adhered to
- Leading and managing the Maintenance Mix - RCM Implementation (Reliability Centre of Maintenance) and Prevention vs Correction vs Design-Out
- Control – Manage any failure causes, conducting RCAs (Root-Cause Analysis) and related budget control
- Business Culture - Top to Bottom team forming and reliability Culture and ensure pro-activeness, learning culture and service excellence through customer focus
- Engineering and maintenance Senior standby Duties
Performance Management
- Oversee supervisory and staff performance
- Ensure equipment performance (and availability) and detailed failure analysis is done as needed
- Ensure continuous improvement and efficient operations by development of systems that accurately monitor all cost elements
- Conduct cost effective production through RCA, defect elimination and determining customer requirements
- Risk Management - Oversee risk identification and overall/specific risk reduction and contractor management (primarily on shutdowns)
- Industrial Relations - Conduct, lead or participate in labour relations hearings and investigations
- Manages/maintains Supply Systems, Workplace Adequacy (availability of tools and skills to do the job), Work Management systems, Asset Management (ISO 55000) and Quality System (ISO 9001), ISO14001, OHSAS18001, OHSACT, Labour Law
- Teamwork- being constructive and willing to take on less attractive tasks, contributing practically to the team’s success
- Problem Solving- thinking things through in a logical way in order to identify key issues, including creative thinking
- Inter-personal Skills- ability to relate well to others and to establish good working relationships
Desired Experience & Qualification
- Advanced Diploma / Btech in Mechanical Engineering / BSc. /BEng Mechanical Engineering
- Government Certificate of Competence (GCC) – Essential
- Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP) - Advantageous
- Minimum 5 years’ relevant experience in heavy metal industry
- Practical experience in manufacturing process and metallurgical furnaces
