- Our client is a leading international mining organisation focused on the responsible development and production of critical minerals. They are seeking a Junior to Intermediate Quantity Surveyor to join their project team at a major tin mining operation near Sorris-Sorris, Namibia .
- The role requires practical Quantity Surveying and commercial experience within a mining, construction, industrial or infrastructure environment , with strong exposure to cost control, procurement and contract administration .
Minimum Requirements
- Diploma, BSc, BTech or BCom in Quantity Surveying or a related qualification.
- 2–5 years' experience in Quantity Surveying.
- Experience within mining, construction, industrial or infrastructure projects .
- Mining or mineral processing experience will be advantageous.
- Experience with Bills of Quantities, measurements, valuations and cost estimates .
- Knowledge of project cost control, budgeting and forecasting .
- Experience with variations, claims and change orders .
- Knowledge of contract administration and commercial management .
- Experience with procurement, RFQs and tender evaluations .
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and relevant Quantity Surveying software .
- Strong analytical, numerical and reporting skills.
- Exposure to NEC, FIDIC or GCC contracts will be advantageous.
- Exposure to project controls or earned value management will be advantageous.
- Preference will be given to Namibian citizens or candidates already residing in Namibia with long-term work eligibility .
- Willingness to travel and work on a remote, site-based mining operation .
Roles & Responsibilities
Quantity Surveying & Cost Control
- Prepare and manage cost estimates, budgets and cost plans.
- Prepare and manage Bills of Quantities .
- Conduct site measurements and valuations of completed work.
- Verify contractor progress and payment claims.
- Assist with monthly valuations, payment certificates and cost reports.
- Monitor project expenditure against approved budgets.
- Assist with forecasting, budgeting and cash flow projections.
- Evaluate variations, claims and additional works.
- Identify potential cost overruns and commercial risks.
- Support the preparation and management of final accounts.
- Maintain accurate cost-control and commercial records.
Procurement
- Assist with procurement activities for mining, construction and project requirements.
- Prepare and issue RFQs and tender documentation .
- Assist with sourcing and evaluating suppliers and contractors.
- Analyse and compare supplier quotations and commercial proposals.
- Assist with procurement and tender recommendations.
- Prepare and manage purchase orders.
- Monitor supplier performance and delivery requirements.
- Identify cost-saving and value-engineering opportunities.
Contract Administration
- Assist with the administration of contractor and supplier agreements.
- Review contractual terms, pricing and commercial conditions.
- Monitor contractor performance and compliance.
- Assist with variations, claims and change orders.
- Support extensions of time and other commercial matters.
- Identify and report contractual and commercial risks.
Mining Project Support
- Work closely with Project Managers, Engineers, Procurement, Finance, contractors and client representatives .
- Provide QS and commercial support throughout the project lifecycle.
- Conduct site visits to verify quantities, completed work and project progress.
- Ensure contractor claims and costs are accurately verified.
- Maintain project documentation and commercial records.
- Provide commercial input into project planning and decision-making.
- Support the project team with cost control, procurement and contract-related matters .
