This role will support the design and documentation of civil infrastructure projects, produce accurate drawings, perform basic engineering calculations, and apply relevant standards under the supervision of senior engineers.

Duties & Responsibilities
Drawing, Design, and Technical Support
- Apply relevant design codes (e.g., SANS, municipal guidelines) under supervision.
- Learn, interpret and apply internal drawing standards, templates, and procedures to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with company drafting requirements.
- Prepare and set up project drawings using standard templates, title blocks, scale conventions, and layering systems to ensure drafting consistency and efficiency.
- Assist in preparing civil engineering designs for infrastructure projects, including but not limited to fibre, roads, ducting, earthworks stormwater, sewer, and water reticulation systems.
- Support basic engineering calculations under the supervision of more experienced technical staff across various design areas to support sound and practical solutions.
- Participate in modelling, drafting and technical reviews of drawings, models, and layouts for accuracy, constructability, and alignment with project objectives.
Documentation and Reporting
- Track, measure and validate quantities to support budget preparation and project costing.
- Extract and interpret measurement data from surveys, maps, and technical drawings to inform design inputs.
- Assist with quantity take-offs and basic calculations for cost estimation and material planning.
- Assist in gathering, reviewing, and interpreting site information (e.g., as-built data, topographical surveys, other spatial inputs, material, and labour rates) to support accurate design development.
- Make sure all measurement information is accurate, reliable, and appropriately incorporated into design documentation and models.
Quality Assurance and Compliance
- Conduct basic quality checks on design outputs to identify inconsistencies, errors, or risks.
- Implement quality control procedures across project deliverables.
- Support adherence to regulatory requirements, engineering standards, and internal processes.
- Keep up to date with developments in engineering tools, industry practices, and relevant legislation.
- Raise and record any risks that may have an impact on the project, the Client, the public or Inani to your relevant supervisor or director.
Collaboration and Coordination
- Work closely with engineers, draughters, and project teams to ensure accurate and timely design delivery.
- Take responsibility for assigned tasks and track progress to meet deadlines.
- Participate in design reviews and coordination meetings to understand project goals and constraints.
- Communicate professionally with contractors, clients, and external stakeholders regarding design inputs or clarifications.
- Follow instructions from senior staff while contributing to technical discussions and problem-solving.
Desired Experience & Qualification
Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience
- Studying toward or completed Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (BEng/ BSc) OR BTech in Civil Engineering OR Diploma in Civil Engineering.
- Registered as a Candidate Engineer or Candidate Engineering Technologist or Candidate Engineering Technician with ECSA (beneficial)
- 0-3 years’ relevant work experience in civil engineering consulting, preferably on earthworks, municipal services, roads, stormwater, or water reticulation projects
- Knowledge of civil design principles, standards, and municipal requirements
- Understanding of technical drafting methods, standards, and drawing conventions
- Proficient in MS Office Suite and familiar with engineering design software such as Civil 3D, Revit, and AutoCAD (or similar)
- Other analysis software like InfoDrainage, Infoworks, Hec-Ras, Synergy, EPANET, EPASWMM, TUFLOW, Autoturn would be advantageous. - Valid driver’s license required
