The business designs and supplies mine winder systems, MV/LV AC drives, DC drives, motors, transformers, resistors, cranes, conveyors, hoisting equipment and custom drive packages . Role Overview
The Electrical Design Engineer is responsible for designing, engineering and documenting the electrical systems that power, control and protect heavy industrial equipment. This includes producing detailed electrical drawings, specifying components, integrating control and safety systems, and ensuring all designs comply with mining, electrical and engineering standards. The role works closely with mechanical engineers, draughtsmen and software developers to deliver fully integrated engineered drive systems.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical System Design
Design electrical systems for mine winders, cranes, conveyors, hoisting equipment and engineered drive systems.
Produce schematics, wiring diagrams, single‑line diagrams, panel layouts, termination diagrams and cable schedules .
Develop motor control circuits, protection circuits, drive integration diagrams and safety interlock logic.
Component Specification
Select and specify electrical components including
MV/LV AC drives
DC drives
AC/DC motors
Transformers
Resistors
Switchgear and protection devices
Instrumentation and sensors
Ensure all components meet performance, safety and compliance requirements.
Control & Safety Integration
Integrate PLC‑based control systems, overspeed protection, braking logic and emergency shutdown circuits.
Collaborate with software developers to ensure seamless communication between electrical and control systems.
Produce accurate, revision‑controlled electrical documentation for manufacturing and installation.
Ensure compliance with mining regulations, electrical standards, OEM specifications and safety requirements .
Project Collaboration
Work closely with mechanical engineers, draughtsmen and project managers.
Provide technical support during panel manufacturing, installation and commissioning.
Troubleshoot electrical issues and propose design improvements.
Minimum Requirements
National Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current preferred).
3–5+ years electrical design experience in industrial, mining or heavy‑engineering environments.
Proficiency in E‑Plan, AutoCAD Electrical or similar design software.
Strong understanding of motors, drives, transformers, switchgear and industrial control systems.
Experience with PLC integration and safety circuits.
Ability to translate engineering requirements into accurate electrical designs.
