Junior Developer

Duties and Responsibilities

The purpose of the Junior Developer is to support the Strate Applications team. The successful candidate will contribute to building secure, scalable web applications that allow financial institutions and market participants to access sensitive securities data and settlement services through modern, intuitive interfaces.

Working under the guidance of Senior Developers, the Junior Developer will assist in implementing features, fixing bugs, writing clean code, and learning best practices in software development. This role offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in developing digital solutions that modernize South Africa’s capital markets infrastructure, while growing technical skills and contributing to Strate’s engineering excellence.

Business process (Internal Process)

• Collaborate with senior developers to implement features and enhancements.
• Write, test, and maintain clean, efficient code.
• Assist in troubleshooting and resolving technical issues.
• Learn and apply secure coding practices.
• Participate in code reviews and team discussions.
• Contribute to building user-friendly interfaces for financial institutions.
• Support Applications to provide uptime as per the SLA
• Should be involved in Support and enhancement activities
• Communicate benefits, risks, and innovations in area of specialisation.

Enable client centricity within area of responsibility (Client Services):

• Attend to all client queries.
• Ensure that queries are resolved efficiently and speedily to enhance client service delivery.
• Establish, monitor and report performance quality measures to help improve service levels to clients.
• Manage relations with clients to ensure delivery of superior customer service.

• Develop and maintain productive and collaborative working relationships with peers and stakeholders.

Desired Experience and Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• Relevant degree in Computer Science or Information Systems

Experience and Knowledge

• Minimum of 1-3 years’ experience
• Financial Markets knowledge and experience advantageous.
• Basic knowledge of web development technologies (e.g., HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and frameworks).
• Familiarity with software development principles and version control systems.
• Eagerness to learn and grow within a collaborative team environment.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Interest in financial technology and digital platforms
• Willing to learn new Technologies
• DevOps experience with Azure DevOps and CI/CD pipelines
• Versed with Java and related technologies
• Exposure to Spring batch and Sprong boot
• Knowledge of Python will be added advantage
• Knowledge of SQL queries and Stored procedures
• Exposure to Scripting language
