- Our client is seeking a motivated Junior Database Administrator to support the administration, maintenance, monitoring, and optimisation of database environments while ensuring database availability, integrity, security, and performance.
- This is an excellent opportunity for an IT professional looking to develop their technical expertise while working alongside experienced database specialists in a dynamic technology environment. The successful candidate will assist senior team members with database design, troubleshooting, backups, and system enhancements.
Key Responsibilities: Database Administration
- Assist in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of database systems.
- Monitor database performance and availability.
- Perform routine database housekeeping activities.
- Execute database backup and recovery procedures.
- Assist with database upgrades and patch management.
Database Design & Optimisation
- Support database design and development activities.
- Maintain database structures and documentation.
- Assist with query optimisation and performance tuning.
- Identify and escalate database performance issues.
Data Management & Security
- Monitor data integrity and consistency across environments.
- Implement database security standards and user access controls.
- Support compliance with data governance and security requirements.
System Support
- Troubleshoot database-related incidents and service requests.
- Support application teams with database connectivity and performance issues.
- Participate in disaster recovery testing and implementation.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain database configuration and operational documentation.
- Generate reports on database performance, availability, and utilisation.
Minimum Requirements: Qualifications
- NQF Level 6 qualification in one of the following:
- Information Technology
- Software Development
- Computer Science
- Related IT discipline
Experience
- 1–3 years' experience in database administration or database support.
- Exposure to SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, or similar database technologies.
- Experience gained through internships, graduate programmes, or junior DBA roles will be advantageous.
Technical Skills
- SQL scripting and querying.
- Basic database administration principles.
- Understanding of backup and recovery processes.
- Knowledge of database security fundamentals.
- Familiarity with database monitoring tools.
- Working knowledge of Windows and/or Linux operating systems.
