Junior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer (Irene Hybrid)

ENVIRONMENT

A dynamic provider of Integrated Security Solutions is looking for a strong technical & highly ambitious Junior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to join its team. You will help manage and grow the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) infrastructure. Working closely with the Head of Infrastructure and Engineering team, you will help design, implement, and optimise secure, reliable, and cost-effective cloud solutions that support a digital identity platform handling sensitive personal and business [Email Address Removed] is a great opportunity for someone early in their cloud career who wants hands-on exposure to production infrastructure in a high-security, high-compliance environment, with room to grow into a broader DevOps or Cloud Engineering role.

DUTIES

Cloud Infrastructure (GCP) -

• Assist in designing and implementing scalable, high-performing cloud architecture for diverse workloads, including identity-verification processing pipelines.
• Configure and manage cloud networking resources: load balancers, VPCs, subnets, firewalls, DNS, TLS certificates, and routing.
• Monitor, configure, and optimise databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MS SQL, Cassandra).
• Build and maintain infrastructure-as-code using Terraform, and support CI/CD pipeline improvements.

Security & Compliance -

• Support processes, policies, and reporting in line with the ISO 27001 Information Security framework.
• Implement and enforce security best practices across the GCP platform, with particular attention to the Protection of Personal Information (POPIA) and client data given the organisation’s role in identity verification.
• Monitor and enforce endpoint security, access controls, and data-protection standards.

Performance, Monitoring & Reporting -

• Establish and monitor key metrics for system performance, cost optimisation, and resource utilisation.
• Develop and maintain reporting and alerting mechanisms for critical metrics, uptime, and performance indicators.
• Support client SLAs related to cloud infrastructure performance, availability, and uptime.

Productivity & Collaboration -

• Manage and optimise Google Workspace (Gmail, Drive, Docs) for user productivity and collaboration.
• Implement security controls and best practice for data protection and access control within Google Workspace.
• Work closely with Cloud Architecture, Development, and Project Management teams to design and deliver infrastructure solutions.

General IT & Employee Support -

• Support office-related IT infrastructure: networking, security, hardware procurement, and inventory management.
• Provide technical support to employees, including account management, new-starter setup and onboarding, and workstation troubleshooting.

REQUIREMENTS

• Some exposure to or experience managing cloud infrastructure (GCP preferred; AWS/Azure exposure also considered).
• A solid grasp of cloud computing concepts, services, and best practices.
• Exposure to Linux administration and scripting (Bash, Python).
• Exposure to infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform.
• Familiarity with open-source or distributed databases (e.g. PostgreSQL, Cassandra) is an advantage.
• Familiarity with administration and security features on Google Workspace or a similar platform.
• An interest in data security and privacy.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
• Comfortable working independently and as part of a small, fast-moving team.
