Junior Analyst - Listed Capital Markets - Cape Town

Introduction

An established and highly regarded corporate finance and investment banking advisory firm is seeking a numerate, meticulous and commercially minded Junior Analyst to join its Listed Capital Markets team in Cape Town.

This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate or early-career professional to gain exposure to listed companies, investor relations, capital markets, corporate finance, JSE and CTSE listings, dual-listed companies, investors, brokers, sell-side analysts and financial media.

The successful candidate will support multiple listed-company mandates and will be involved in research, financial analysis, investor engagement, financial communications, roadshows, corporate events and listed-company advisory work.

Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

• Support the investor relations function across multiple listed-company mandates

• Conduct detailed research on listed companies, sectors, shareholders, investors and prospective clients

• Assist with engagement across the investor spectrum, including institutional investors, asset managers, pension funds, development finance institutions, wealth managers, HNW investors and retail shareholders

• Liaise with and support engagements involving brokers, sell-side analysts and financial media

• Assist with planning and coordinating investor roadshows, site visits, investor engagements and corporate events

• Prepare investor briefing documents, presentations, research reports and meeting materials

• Assist with post-engagement reporting and analysis

• Support investor relations activities surrounding financial results, corporate actions and live corporate finance transactions

• Develop working knowledge of JSE Listings Requirements and capital markets regulations

• Gain exposure to JSE, CTSE and dual-listed JSE/LSE and international mandates

• Coordinate with clients and stakeholders across multiple deadlines and time zones

• Maintain high standards of accuracy, confidentiality, research quality and professional communication

Desired Experience & Qualification

Key Requirements

• Completed degree in Finance, Investment Management, Accounting, Economics, Business Science or a related business discipline

• Strong academic record

• 0–2 years' experience; vacation work or internship experience advantageous

• Strong Microsoft Excel skills and confidence working with financial statements

• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills

• Strong research and analytical capabilities

• Ability to research companies, sectors, investors and markets using multiple public information sources

• Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy

• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing deadlines

• Confident and professional interpersonal skills

• Comfortable engaging with senior executives, investors, brokers, analysts and media

• High level of discretion and sound judgement when handling confidential and potentially inside information

• Ability to work under pressure during results seasons and live transactions

• Comfortable coordinating with international stakeholders and across time zones

• Willingness to travel domestically

• Legally entitled to work in South Africa

• Based in or willing to relocate to Stellenbosch

• Successful completion of required background and credit checks

Advantageous Experience

• Investor Relations or Public Relations qualification

• Internship / vacation work within corporate finance, investment banking, audit, asset management, financial PR, investor relations or a listed company

• Exposure to JSE Listings Requirements, CTSE, SENS, integrated reporting or company secretarial functions

• Experience with roadshows, investor presentations or corporate events

• Media relations or financial communications

• Share register analysis

• PowerPoint and presentation development

• Bloomberg, S&P Global or other financial/market data platforms

• Exposure to dual-listed companies or international listings

• Demonstrable interest in capital markets and listed companies
