Junior AI Automation Engineer

Launch Your Career in AI, Automation & Software Engineering Our client, a premier South African manufacturer specialising in world-class access automation and security solutions, is looking for a Junior Automation Engineer to join their R&D team and help design, build, and deploy AI-powered automation solutions across the business. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience working with cutting-edge AI technologies while learning how different business functions operate, including Sales, Finance, Human Resources, Production, Technical Support, and Marketing. Working alongside experienced engineers, the ideal candidate will contribute to both automation projects and the development of the internal AI platform, gaining exposure to software engineering, AI application development, systems integration, platform operations, and business process improvement. Duties & Responsibilities

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Analyze and document business processes across multiple departments.

• Identify opportunities where AI and automation can improve efficiency and reduce manual work.

• Build, test, deploy, and support automation agents and workflows.

• Contribute to the development and maintenance of internal AI platform.

• Integrate AI solutions with business systems and applications.

• Assist with platform monitoring, troubleshooting, and performance optimization.

• Create and maintain testing and evaluation frameworks for AI solutions.

• Ensure compliance with data security, privacy, and governance standards.

• Provide support and training to business users.

• Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Essential Skills, Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Electronic Engineering, or a related field.

• 0-2 years of experience in software development, automation, data engineering, or related areas.

• Strong Python programming skills.

• Experience with at least one additional language such as Java, TypeScript, or C#.

• Understanding of software development methodologies including Agile and Scrum.

• Knowledge of APIs, databases, version control, and system integrations.

• Interest in AI technologies, large language models, and automation.

Advantageous Experience

• Exposure to AI frameworks, LLMs, agent-based systems, or RAG solutions.

• Experience with Docker, Linux, CI/CD pipelines, or cloud infrastructure.

• Familiarity with tools such as LiteLLM, Qdrant, pgvector, Langfuse, or similar technologies.

• Relevant AI, cloud, or software development certifications.
