Junior AI-Assisted Software Developer

About the Opportunity An exciting opportunity is available for a Junior AI-Assisted Software Developer to join an established professional services environment in Kimberley. The company develops and maintains its own in-house software using modern AI coding tools. This position offers an opportunity for a recent graduate to grow as a developer while contributing to practical software solutions used in everyday business operations. The role focuses on understanding development requirements, using AI tools effectively, reviewing generated code, testing solutions and ensuring that all changes are accurate, reliable and complete. Purpose of the Role You will assist with the development and maintenance of in-house applications built with Next.js, enhancing existing systems and developing new tools as business requirements evolve. AI-assisted development tools such as Codex and Cursor are used to support the development process. The emphasis is on interpreting development tickets correctly, providing effective instructions to AI tools, reviewing generated code, testing functionality and ensuring that each change meets the required specifications. You will gradually develop a thorough understanding of the existing codebase and the technical judgement required to distinguish between changes that simply work and those that are safe, correct and complete. You will be accountable for the quality of the work you deliver. Key Responsibilities 1. Understand the Problem

• Read and interpret detailed development tickets and identify the underlying problem to be solved.

• Use screenshots and visual references to understand the current and expected user experience.

• Ask focused questions when requirements are unclear or contradictory.

2. Build with AI Responsibly

• Use Codex, Cursor and similar tools to implement changes, refining instructions when initial solutions are incorrect or incomplete.

• Read and understand AI-generated code before accepting or merging it.

• Identify unnecessary, risky or unrelated code changes and investigate their causes.

3. Test and Verify Results

• Run applications locally and test functional and visual changes against the requirements.

• Diagnose issues using browser developer tools, console output and terminal errors.

• Ensure new changes do not break existing functionality.

• Attach clear screenshots to development tickets as evidence of completion.

4. Document and Collaborate

• Update development tickets accurately, documenting changes and testing performed.

• Use Git and GitHub correctly for branches, commits and pull requests.

• Build knowledge of the codebase, development standards and internal processes.

• Maintain strict confidentiality regarding company and client information.

Important to Understand About This Role This is not a senior developer position. You will not be expected to design and code large, complex systems entirely from scratch. This is not simply a prompt operator position. AI-generated output must be understood, reviewed and tested before it is accepted. The role requires someone who can understand a problem, use AI effectively to solve it, interpret the generated code, test the results thoroughly and demonstrate that the task has been completed correctly.
