Java Developer (Intermediate) 12 MONTH CONTRACT

Work Arrangement: Hybrid – On-site Monday, Wednesday and Friday

Contract Duration: 12 months, with a possible additional 6-month extension

Rate: R300 per hour

Position Overview

We are recruiting 2 experienced Java Developers (Intermediate / S6) to join a dynamic Agile software development environment.

The successful candidates will be responsible for developing, maintaining and optimising robust, end-to-end software solutions supporting the Internet Service Provider (ISP) lifecycle.

The role involves developing enterprise applications, backend microservices, frontend components and system integrations supporting service provisioning, subscriber and customer management, product modelling and customer self-service platforms .

Candidates must demonstrate strong hands-on experience in Java, Spring Boot/Quarkus, REST/SOAP APIs, microservices, relational databases and modern frontend technologies .

Duties & Responsibilities

Java Development & System Integration

Develop, maintain, debug and optimise Java-based enterprise applications.

Build and enhance backend services using Java and Spring Boot or Quarkus.

Design and develop RESTful and SOAP APIs.

Develop microservices supporting service provisioning, order orchestration and service activation.

Integrate frontend applications with enterprise backend systems and third-party services.

Support integrations with billing, OSS/BSS and network service platforms.

Frontend Development

Develop and maintain frontend applications using React, Angular or PrimeFaces.

Modernise legacy frontend components, including jQuery-based interfaces.

Develop reusable and responsive UI components.

Collaborate with frontend and backend developers to deliver integrated solutions.

Database Development & Optimisation

Develop, maintain and optimise SQL queries.

Work with relational databases including PostgreSQL, MariaDB, MySQL or Oracle.

Identify and resolve application and database performance bottlenecks.

Debug and refactor existing Java code to improve performance and reliability.

DevOps, Testing & Agile Delivery

Work with Docker or Podman containerised environments.

Support applications deployed using Kubernetes or OpenShift.

Work with CI/CD pipelines and tools such as GitLab, Maven and Jenkins.

Develop and execute unit and integration tests.

Participate in peer code reviews and maintain coding standards.

Collaborate with QA engineers to identify and resolve defects.

Participate in Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, daily standups and backlog refinement.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering or a related technical discipline.

Equivalent industry experience will also be considered.

Minimum Experience

Minimum 5 years of professional hands-on software development experience .

Strong practical Java application development experience.

Experience debugging, refactoring and optimising Java applications.

Commercial experience developing frontend applications.

Experience developing RESTful APIs, SOAP services and microservices.

Experience working with relational databases and optimised SQL queries.

Experience working within Agile development teams.

Required Technical Skills

Backend: Java, Spring Boot or Quarkus, microservices.

API Integration: REST, SOAP, JSON, OpenAPI/Swagger.

Frontend: React, Angular or PrimeFaces.

Databases: MariaDB, PostgreSQL, MySQL or Oracle.

Containerisation: Docker or Podman.

Orchestration: Kubernetes or OpenShift.

CI/CD & Build Tools: GitLab CI/CD, Maven, Jenkins.

DevOps Exposure: Ansible, Artifactory, Infrastructure-as-Code practices.

Version Control & Testing: Git, unit testing, integration testing and code reviews.

Advantageous Experience

The following would be beneficial but are not mandatory

Telecommunications or ISP industry experience.

OSS/BSS domain knowledge.

Service provisioning and network activation systems.

JBoss EAP or enterprise application servers.

Red Hat 3scale or other enterprise API gateways.

Legacy jQuery migration to React or Angular.

High-availability or low-latency transactional systems.

Enterprise integration platforms.

Package & Remuneration

Location: Centurion, Gauteng

Hybrid Working Model: Candidates must be available to work on-site every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Contract: Initial 12-month contract, with a possible additional 6-month extension.
