Inventory Cost Accountant
Location: Paarl, Western Cape
Position Type: Permanent
Salary: Highly Negotiable (Based on experience)

CRITICAL REQUIREMENT (NON-NEGOTIABLE)
Candidates MUST currently hold or previously have held the role of Inventory Cost Accountant within a Retail Supermarket Chain or the Meat Industry . Applications without explicit background in these specific sectors will not be considered.
About the Role
An established business based in Paarl is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Inventory Cost Accountant from the retail supermarket or meat processing sector to join their finance team.
In this role, you will oversee inventory financial data, maintain strict stock controls, accurately execute product costing for imported and local goods, and manage general ledger reconciliations. The ideal candidate possesses hands-on experience in Pastel Evolution , advanced MS Excel capabilities, and a proven track record in high-volume fast-moving inventory variance management.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Pastel Evolution Management: Implement, maintain, and manage inventory Masterfiles, warehouse locations, pricing matrices, and customer discount structures.
- Costing & Bill of Materials: Ensure exact inventory costing and pricing accuracy for local and imported goods, including auditing Bills of Materials (BOM).
- Internal Inventory Controls: Implement and maintain robust internal stock controls to prevent misstatement, minimize stock wastage, and control yield/theft loss.
- Stock Counts & Reconciliations: Coordinate and manage stock counts across stores, perform GP calculations, analyze inventory variances, and reconcile physical stock against the General Ledger.
- Stock Levels & Procurement: Monitor minimum stock levels to ensure timely ordering at competitive prices, and negotiate favorable discount terms with suppliers.
- Reporting & Analysis: Compile detailed inventory, product costing, and variance reports to support management decision-making.
Desired Experience & Qualification
- Industry Experience (Non-Negotiable): Proven experience as an Inventory Cost Accountant specifically within a Retail Supermarket Chain or the Meat Industry .
- Work Experience: 3 to 5 years of solid experience in an Inventory Cost Accountant role.
- Software: Proven proficiency in Pastel Evolution is essential. Exposure to Odessey software is highly advantageous.
- Computer Literacy: High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office (specifically advanced MS Excel).
- Financial Acumen: Strong understanding of landed costs, BOM pricing, GP calculations, yield tracking, and stock reconciliations.
