Introduction

METOS SA has an exciting opportunity for an  Intern (Field Weather Stations)  to join our growing Agri‑Tech support team. This is a hands‑on, outdoor, field-based role  focused on assisting with the installation, maintenance, and support of weather stations  and related technologies and service hubs across the southern provinces of South Africa.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys practical technical work, working independently in the field, and interacting with farmers and industry partners. This is not an office-based or software IT role. The majority of work is performed outdoors in the field.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist with the installation, servicing, and maintenance of weather stations and associated field equipment .
  • Assist with performing fault‑finding, diagnostics, and repairs  on installed systems.
  • Assist with loading firmware and configuring devices  using standard upload tools (no coding required).
  • Assist with responding to breakdowns, call‑outs, and emergency repairs .
  • Assist with conducting routine inspections and preventative maintenance .
  • Assist with completing accurate service reports , installation records , and admin documentation .
  • Assist with providing technical support to internal service hubs and accredited field technicians.
  • Assist with client training and basic user support .
  • Maintain strong working relationships with farmers, agents, and partners.
  • Assist with performing weekly vehicle and equipment inspections  (company vehicle provided for installations).

Desired Experience & Qualification

  • Post‑matric qualification in Agriculture, Electronics, RF, or similar.
  • Exposure to Ag‑Tech, IoT devices, telemetry, or sensor-based systems (Advantageous).
  • Computer literate.
  • Valid Code 8 driver’s licence.
  • Fully bilingual in Afrikaans and English advantageous .
  • Basic digital & tool literacy.
  • Comfortable with outdoor, physical work  in all weather conditions.
  • Able to work independently  without direct supervision.
  • Strong administrative and reporting skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willing to travel extensively  and work flexible hours when required, according to operational requirements (call outs, emergency breakdowns, be on standby when required).
  • Confident using a smartphone and computer  for work-related tasks.

Package & Remuneration

Internship allowance.
