Introduction

To manage and optimise Villa's international logistics function, ensuring the efficient, compliant and cost-effective movement of goods through import and export channels. The role is responsible for developing and executing logistics strategies, managing customs and trade compliance, overseeing freight and third-party logistics service providers, leading the International Logistics team, and ensuring consistent and effective supply chain performance that supports business growth, customer service excellence and profitability.

Duties & Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensuring Import of product is on time as per request.
  • Timely availability of product as requested by organisation
  • Effective management of all import and export activities across designated markets.
  • Compliance with SARS Customs, international trade regulations, and company policies.
  • Optimised freight, logistics and landed costs through effective planning, accurate and timely customs clearances, shipping documentation and regulatory reporting.
  • High-performing relationships with third party logistics service providers, suppliers (Imports) and customers (Exports).
  • Effective management of logistics risks, disruptions and business continuity requirements.
  • Continuous improvement of processes, systems and service levels.
  • Development and leadership of a high-performing International Logistics team.
  • Creation and achievement of departmental KPI targets relating to cost, compliance, service, inventory availability and operational efficiency.
  • Accurate reporting, performance analysis and decision-making support for management and key stakeholders.

Desired Experience & Qualification

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Diploma or BCom degree (preferred) in Supply Chain Management, Logistics Management, International Trade, Commerce, Business Management, Operations Management, or a related field.
  • 5+ years’ experience in Logistics and Supply Chain.
  • Minimum 8–10 years’ experience in clearing agency, International Logistics, Supply Chain, Freight Forwarding, Imports, Exports, or Trade Compliance.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a management role.
  • Proven experience managing end-to-end import and export operations.
  • Experience managing sea, air, and road freight movements.
  • Demonstrated experience working with SARS Customs, customs clearing agents, freight forwarders, shipping lines, airlines, and transport providers.
  • Experience in tariff classification, customs valuation, duty management, and trade compliance would be a significant advantage.
  • Experience as the appointed representative for AEO clearance.
  • Experience negotiating contracts and managing clearing and delivery service providers.
  • Experience operating within ERP environments, preferably Microsoft Dynamics Business Central.
  • Experience within agricultural, chemical, FMCG, manufacturing, distribution, or international trading environments would be advantageous.
  • Proven experience managing teams and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Experience working across multiple countries and international supply chains.
  • A basic course in the transportation and storage of dangerous goods.
  • Professional certifications would be preferred, such as:
  • CILT (Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport)
  • APICS / ASCM Certifications
  • CSCP (Certified Supply Chain Professional)
  • CPIM (Certified in Planning and Inventory Management)
  • FIATA Freight Forwarding Certifications
  • Customs and International Trade Compliance Certifications

  • Communication & Relationship Management: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build effective stakeholder relationships and maintain a strong service orientation.
  • Personal Competencies: Results-driven, accountable and detail-oriented, with integrity, sound judgement, resilience and a commitment to continuous improvement and operational excellence.

KNOWLEDGE

  • Substantial knowledge of international trade across different incoterms, with basic accounting and project management
  • Working knowledge of statuary requirements relating to global imports and exports with the SADC region.
  • Experience with sales, logistics and organization.
  • Record retention and customs audit requirements.
  • Duty and VAT principles.
  • Import permits and licensing requirements.
  • Landed cost calculations.
  • Microsoft Excel (Advanced).
  • Microsoft Power BI.
  • Reporting and analytics platforms.
  • Digital logistics and shipment visibility tools.
  • Basic continuous improvement tools (RCA, performance management systems, lean principles)

Package & Remuneration
