Internal Sales, Counter Sales & Warehouse Assistant

Introduction

A well-established company in the industrial components and pneumatic systems sector is seeking a dynamic and self-motivated Internal Sales, Counter Sales & Warehouse Assistant to join their Durban-based team. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting daily trade counter operations, internal sales functions, and warehouse inventory control.

This role requires a hands-on individual with strong attention to detail, the ability to multitask, and a proactive approach to customer service and operational efficiency.

Position Overview

The role encompasses responsibility for trade counter operations, telephonic and email sales, inventory control, and general warehouse assistance. The ideal candidate will be well-spoken, presentable, and capable of managing multiple responsibilities simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

Due to the physical nature of the role, including handling heavy components and the use of power tools for cutting and assembly, the candidate must be physically fit and comfortable working in a warehouse environment.

Duties & Responsibilities

Inventory Control & Warehouse Operations

• Maintain accurate records of all stock, including boot stock, consignment stock, and sample stock

• Capture and update pricing for new products on the SAP system

• Manage stock returns, ensuring correct processing and bin allocation

• Pick and prepare sales orders for dispatch and internal requests

• Manage outbound deliveries and coordinate dispatch processes

• Assist with placement of local stock orders

• Receive incoming stock, verify against purchase orders, and update SAP records

• Ensure proper bin location storage within the warehouse

• Prepare and assist with weekly, monthly, and annual stock takes

• Assist in managing stores administration and coordinate with logistics and cleaning staff

Internal Sales & Trade Counter

• Handle sales enquiries via telephone, WhatsApp, and email

• Prepare and process customer quotations

• Manage trade counter sales and walk-in customer interactions

• Identify and refer potential new business leads to Sales Engineers

• Process invoicing and manage point-of-sale transactions

• Handle cash sales and reconcile petty cash

• Assist with recovery of courier and transport costs

• Assemble and build components as required

Facilities & Housekeeping

• Maintain cleanliness and organization of trade counter, warehouse, receiving, and dispatch areas

• Assist with opening and closing of the warehouse

• Support warehouse administration functions

• Compile monthly reports on trade counter sales volumes and values

• Perform additional duties as delegated by the Logistics Manager

Desired Experience & Qualification

Qualifications

• Matric (Grade 12) or equivalent (essential)

• Relevant tertiary qualification in Sales, Logistics, or Supply Chain (advantageous)

Experience

• 3–5 years’ experience in warehouse and stores environment

• Previous internal sales or trade counter experience (advantageous)

• Experience working with SAP or similar warehouse management systems

Skills & Competencies

• Proficient in MS Office and Outlook

• Strong attention to detail and accuracy

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Fluent in English (read, write, and speak)

• Ability to multitask and work under pressure

• Fast learner with the ability to understand a wide range of products

• Strong customer service orientation

Prerequisites

• Own reliable transport

• Must reside within the greater Durban area

• Physically fit and able to handle heavy components

• Willingness to work occasional overtime, including weekends if required
