- Our client, a leading international mining organisation focused on the responsible development and production of critical minerals, is seeking an experienced Intermediate Quantity Surveyor to join their team in Mokopane, Limpopo.
- The role requires a strong understanding of both Quantity Surveying and Procurement with practical experience within a mining environment.
Minimum Requirements
- BSc, BTech or BCom in Quantity Surveying or a related qualification.
- 3–6 years' experience in Quantity Surveying.
- Proven experience within the mining industry , preferably working directly on a mine or mining-related projects.
- Strong experience in procurement , including sourcing, RFQs, tender processes, supplier evaluation and purchase orders.
- Experience in construction and mining procurement processes.
- Practical experience with B ills of Quantities, measurements, valuations and cost estimates.
- Experience in contract administration and commercial management.
- Experience managing project budgets, expenditure and cost forecasts.
- Experience with variations, claims and payment certificates.
- Strong knowledge of supplier and contractor management.
- Excellent Excel skills and proficiency in relevant Quantity Surveying software.
Roles & Responsibilities
Quantity Surveying & Commercial Management
- Prepare, review and manage Bills of Quantities, estimates and cost plans.
- Conduct measurements and valuations of completed work.
- Monitor project expenditure against approved budgets.
- Prepare monthly valuations, payment certificates and cost reports.
- Assess variations, claims and additional works.
- Monitor project costs and identify potential cost overruns.
- Assist with forecasting, budgeting and financial planning.
- Support the preparation and management of final accounts.
- Maintain accurate commercial and cost-control records.
Procurement
- Manage procurement activities for mining, construction and project-related requirements.
- Prepare and issue RFQs and tender documentation.
- Source and evaluate suppliers and contractors.
- Analyse and compare supplier quotations and commercial proposals.
- Conduct commercial evaluations and provide procurement recommendations.
- Negotiate pricing, terms and conditions with suppliers and contractors.
- Prepare and manage purchase orders.
- Monitor supplier performance, delivery schedules and contractual obligations.
- Identify cost-saving and value-engineering opportunities.
- Ensure procurement activities comply with company policies, procedures and governance requirements.
- Maintain procurement records, supplier documentation and procurement schedules.
Contract Administration
- Assist with the administration and management of contractor and supplier agreements.
- Review contractual terms, pricing and commercial conditions.
- Monitor contractor performance and compliance.
- Manage and evaluate contractual variations and claims.
- Assist with extensions of time and other commercial matters.
- Identify and report contractual and commercial risks.
Mining Project Support
- Work closely with Project Managers, Engineers, Procurement, Finance and operational teams.
- Provide QS and commercial support throughout the project lifecycle.
- Conduct site visits to verify completed work and project progress.
- Ensure quantities, costs and contractor claims are accurately verified.
- Provide commercial input into project planning and decision-making.
- Support project teams with cost control, procurement and contract-related matters.
