Role Overview

A leading technical engineering solutions business is seeking an experienced Proposals Engineer – Internal Sales to join its team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and managing technical proposals, quotations and tenders, while providing customers with technically suitable product and engineering solutions. The role requires efficient RFQ management, strong customer engagement and the ability to meet commercial, technical and submission requirements within agreed timelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain accurate customer and opportunity information on the CRM system.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with existing customers while identifying opportunities to grow the customer base.
  • Conduct customer site visits where required to understand technical and operational requirements.
  • Prepare technically sound quotations, tenders and proposals in line with customer specifications.
  • Use relevant instrument sizing and selection tools to identify appropriate product solutions.
  • Evaluate customer requirements and recommend suitable alternative solutions where applicable.
  • Obtain product pricing and quotations from local and international suppliers.
  • Compile and maintain accurate pricing schedules using current supplier and company price lists.
  • Review quotations for technical accuracy and communicate any deviations from the original RFQ to customers.
  • Ensure quotations and tenders are professionally prepared and submitted within specified deadlines.
  • Confirm receipt of submitted quotations and tenders with customers.
  • Maintain appropriate tender records, reports and activity logs.
  • Coordinate and resolve customer and supplier technical or commercial queries.
  • Build and strengthen long-term customer relationships through responsive service and technical support.
  • Process customer orders accurately and within the required turnaround time.
  • Prepare and issue order acknowledgements and ensure correct order processing.
  • Keep the CRM system updated with successful and unsuccessful orders and opportunities.
  • Maintain organised project and customer folders containing relevant correspondence and documentation.
  • Prepare internal documentation required for order processing and project execution, including work instructions.
  • Support customers, order processing and project teams with the resolution of technical queries.
  • Assist with inspections, including FAT activities, as well as the preparation and review of supporting documentation.
  • Provide technical product support to customers and internal colleagues.
  • Assist with product-related training and technical guidance where required.
  • Adhere to departmental procedures, quality standards, safety requirements and continuous improvement initiatives.

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 / Matric, including Mathematics and Physical Science.
  • National Diploma in Engineering will be advantageous.
  • Administration-related qualification will be advantageous.

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years' relevant industry experience.
  • 2–3 years' experience in customer relationship management.
  • Previous experience within an internal sales, proposals, quotations or technical sales environment.
  • Exposure to technical product selection, tender preparation and RFQ processes will be advantageous.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong proficiency in MS Office.
  • Experience within an internal sales environment.
  • Ability to achieve results and effectively coordinate or guide team members where required.
  • Strong time-management and organisational skills.
  • Ability to prioritise multiple tasks according to urgency and deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to understand customer requirements and translate them into practical technical solutions.
  • Good understanding of market conditions and trends influencing service and sales opportunities.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tender and quotation deadlines.
