Our client in Pretoria is recruiting for a Infrastructure Engineer (Expert) to join their team.
Job Description
Design, implement and support secure, scalable, highly available cloud infrastructure and platform services.
Provide and operate secure deployment environments and platform capabilities for development and production teams.
Build and maintain cloud networking, DNS, VPN and load-balancing configurations to meet availability and security requirements.
Implement and manage storage and compute provisioning with attention to cost, performance and scalability.
Design and operate container platforms (Docker, Kubernetes) and the CI/CD flows that deploy into them.
Implement and enforce security controls including IAM, RBAC, secrets management and relevant security frameworks.
Automate infrastructure provisioning and configuration using Terraform and CI/CD tools (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions).
Instrument platform services with metrics, traces and logs; define and maintain SLOs, dashboards and alerting to meet operational objectives.
Build, consume and improve interfaces/APIs between platform components and downstream services to enable seamless integrations.
Troubleshoot production issues, perform root cause analysis and implement long-term fixes and improvements.
Meet operational SLAs (availability, latency, MTTR); own alerts, runbooks and participate in incident response/on-call rotations.
Drive continuous improvement in platform reliability, automation coverage, security posture and operational processes.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications/Experience
Extensive hands-on experience (typically 6+ years) in cloud infrastructure, platform engineering or DevOps roles with strong AWS experience.
Proven track record of designing and operating secure, scalable, highly available cloud platforms, with demonstrable experience in networking, containers, security and automation.
Strong systems thinking, risk management and problem-solving skills; Have a curious solution-minded, takes ownership, drives topics.
Essential Skills Requirements
Strong hands-on experience with AWS cloud platform as the primary cloud provider.
Deep knowledge of networking fundamentals including DNS, VPNs, load balancing, and routing.
Expertise with storage and compute services in public cloud environments.
Proficient with container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes for platform deployments.
Strong competence in security controls: IAM, RBAC, secrets management and security frameworks.
Infrastructure-as-Code and automation experience using Terraform and CI/CD tooling (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions).
Infrastructure testing and security: experience building automated tests for IaC (unit tests, plan/apply validations), IaC security scanning (e.g., checkov, tfsec) and secure deployment pipelines.
Experience implementing and operating monitoring and observability solutions (Grafana, Prometheus, Azure Monitor, Application Insights).
Skilled in designing secure, highly available and scalable platform architectures.
Comfortable building, consuming and integrating interfaces and APIs across infrastructure and platform components.
Advantageous Skills Requirements
Practical experience with Microsoft Azure and its platform services.
Experience or familiarity with Java and Python for automation and platform tooling.
Knowledge of a database query language.
Exposure to message-based platforms such as Kafka.
Experience with enterprise systems infrastructure such as SAP.
Familiarity with container orchestration patterns, Helm charts and GitOps workflows.
Understanding of secret and certificate lifecycle management at scale.
Experience with storage performance tuning and cost optimisation strategies.
Experience with high-availability design patterns, disaster recovery and backup strategies.
Knowledge on identity and access governance or Zero Trust platform integrations.
Experience with CI/CD security scanning (SCA, IaC scanning) and vulnerability management.
Familiarity with serverless platforms (Lambda, Azure Functions) for event-driven workloads.
