Introduction

Our client is seeking an Entry-Level Infrastructure Engineer to join the core Infrastructure Engineering team within their global IT Hub.

This role centers on supporting high-availability Linux solutions and frameworks that are resilient, encrypted, and secure across both office and critical production manufacturing environments.

Operating as a Linux Client Engineer under direct supervision, you will apply formal job knowledge and hands-on operational practice to assist in deploying, automating, and maintaining standardized Linux client platforms across physical, virtual, and cloud infrastructures.

• Linux Administration & Automation: Solid foundation working with Unix/Linux operating systems (Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Ubuntu, SUSE) alongside practical experience in Ansible Automation and Ansible Tower.

• Scripting & Version Control: Competency in shell scripting (Bash, Perl, Python, PowerShell) and GitHub repositories to support config-as-code and automated operational tasks.

• Guided Operations & Compliance: A entry-level engineer who follows defined instructions, assists with patching lifecycles, and supports Incident, Problem, and Change (PIC) processes according to strict organizational standards.

• Location: Midrand / Menlyn / Rosslyn / Home Office Rotation

• Level: Entry (2-4 Years related experience)

Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

• Platform Support & Maintenance: Assist in developing, operating, and maintaining standardized Linux client platforms for office and manufacturing production environments.

• Image & Package Configuration: Help maintain Linux base images, software packages, and configuration standards according to defined guidelines.

• System Administration & Security: Support the installation, configuration, and administration of Linux systems across physical, virtual, and cloud infrastructures (e.g., AWS). Assist with vulnerability remediations and patching.

• Process Automation: Execute automated deployment and configuration tasks using Ansible playbooks and shell scripts under team guidance.

• Operational Logging & Agile Tracking: Document operational procedures, update CMDB records, and manage assigned Jira tasks within an agile team structure.

Location & Relocation

Applicants based outside of Gauteng must be willing to relocate to Midrand/Menlyn/Rosslyn. Please note that relocation to the province will be at the candidate's own cost.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Qualifications & Experience

• Degree in Information Systems or equivalent qualification/experience.

• Minimum of 2 years of dedicated IT operations experience.

• Minimum of 2 years of configuration management and automation experience.

• Basic working knowledge across Linux OS environments (RHEL, Ubuntu, SLES), version control (GitHub), and cloud technologies (AWS, Azure).

Essential Skills & Technologies

Core Linux Systems & Automation

• Practical experience with Unix/Linux operating systems (Ubuntu, Red Hat, SUSE).

• Exposure to Ansible Automation and Ansible Tower.

• Proficiency in shell scripting (Bash, Perl, Python) and PowerShell.

• Working familiarity with GitHub and GitOps repository structures.

Networking & Security Basics

• Understanding of networking concepts (DNS, DHCP, SSH, TCP/IP) and proxy configurations.

• Familiarity with secure coding practices and config-as-code principles.

• Knowledge of system monitoring tools (Grafana or similar) and standard backup solutions.

Advantageous Skills

• Certifications: RHCSA, RHCE (ex294/ex407), RHCA, SUSE, or Veritas Infoscale certifications.

• High Availability & Systems: Exposure to Veritas Infoscale, Rudder, VMWare virtualization, Private Cloud, and Windows Server environments.

• Containers & Observability: Basic awareness of containerization (Podman, Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift), Dynatrace, Splunk, Red Hat Satellite, and ServiceNow.

• Process Knowledge: Basic knowledge of ITIL, PIC processes (Problem-Incident-Change), and Agile methodologies.
