Job Description

Internal/Operational Processes

  • Lead or support the formulation of industry value chain and thematic development roadmaps, depending on organisational priorities and resource requirements.
  • Together with SBUs or Projects develop clear, tangible implementation plans for industry/value chain development following consultation with relevant internal and external stakeholders.
  • Identify project and investment opportunities.

Compile analytical frameworks for sectors.

  • Provide industry, market and policy insights across multiple sectors to inform strategic decision-making by Industry Planning, SBUs and project teams.
  • Monitor/review actual vs anticipated developmental trajectory of industries and subsectors and take corrective measures revision of strategies/focus areas/action plans as required.
  • Lead or participate in government and industry development Steering Committees/Forums and stakeholder engagements to inform industry development initiatives.
  • Ongoing engagement with Operations and Support Units to ensure that industry development strategies are optimally executed and updated/refined where strategies prove to not yield the desired outcomes.
  • Identification and management of risks relating to industry development strategies.
  • Provide value-adding input and guidance to the Client Support & Growth teams and to the SBUs to ensure that investee companies are contributing to overall industry development goals.
  • Participate in ad hoc and unscheduled strategic interventions required to address challenges/priorities in the industry/value chain or the IDC.
  • Support the preparation of executive reports, presentations and strategic recommendations for IDC governance structures.

Cross-Sector Strategy and Integration

  • Support industry planning activities across multiple sectors and value chains as required.
  • Identify opportunities, linkages, synergies and adjacencies between industries and strategic initiatives.
  • Contribute to multidisciplinary industry development projects, programmes and task teams.
  • Assist with the preparation of integrated industry development strategies and implementation plans.
  • Conduct comparative analysis of industries, value chains and international benchmarks to identify development opportunities.
  • Support rapid-response strategic assignments and emerging priority initiatives identified by management.

Customer Focus & Stakeholder Management

  • Actively engage relevant industry stakeholders and participate and represent the IDC in industry forums internal and external to:
  • influence the goals, objectives, activities and initiatives of such forums and participating parties to ensure that the IDC's ultimate industry development goals are achieved.
  • learn from industry stakeholders/parties participating in industry forums.
  • create a conducive environment for the development/growth of industries and/or their subsectors.
  • Clearly articulate and communicate industry/sector-specific strategies within the IDC and the larger external stakeholder group, e.g., through publication of articles, speeches at conferences, and social media presence.
  • Develop and maintain stakeholder networks across a broad range of sectors, government institutions, industry associations, development partners and research organisations.
  • Facilitate stakeholder engagements, workshops and consultations to support industry planning and strategy development activities.
  • Collaborate with experts and sector specialists to strengthen industry planning outputs.

Qualification and Experience Qualifications

  • Minimum qualification: relevant post graduate qualification.
  • MBA or Master's would be an advantage.

Knowledge & experience

  • 8-10 years' industry experience, including strategy development & implementation.

Sound knowledge and practical understanding of

  • global industries and value chains.

  • emerging industries.
  • Demonstrated ability to rapidly acquire knowledge and develop strategic insights in unfamiliar industries, value chains and emerging sectors.
  • Experience working across multiple sectors, value chains, programmes or strategic initiatives.
  • Experience in strategic planning, project/programme management or industry development initiatives.
  • Experience facilitating stakeholder engagements and multi-stakeholder processes.
  • Strong research, analytical and problem-solving capability.
  • Ability to rapidly understand and assess unfamiliar industries and value chains.
  • Good networks within industries in both private and public space.
  • Experience in coaching and mentoring team members.

  • Keep up to date with the latest industry developments conferences, sector forums, literature reviews and internal IDC engagement.
