Industrial Software Developer

Introduction

SA Power has a vacancy for an Industrial Software Developer to join our team in North Riding, Randburg.

The role focuses on developing and maintaining software for industrial automation systems, with an emphasis on embedded systems, SCADA applications and database integration. This includes working with IoT devices, connecting software to PLCs and industrial equipment, and managing the collection, storage and exchange of operational data.

The position requires a combination of software development skills and practical experience in industrial technology, with a focus on industrial systems, SCADA and databases. General software development experience limited to web development, mobile applications or conventional business software will not be sufficient for this role.

Duties and responsibilities

• Develop, modify, test and maintain software for industrial automation applications.

• Develop and troubleshoot embedded software and hardware/software interfaces.

• Develop, configure and troubleshoot SCADA applications and their integration with industrial control systems.

• Develop and maintain databases, SQL queries and data integrations.

• Integrate software with PLCs, industrial controllers, equipment and related systems.

• Diagnose and resolve software, communication and data-related faults.

• Assist with system testing, commissioning and implementation.

• Provide technical support and assist with on-site troubleshooting when required.

• Maintain technical documentation and project handover records.

Qualifications and experience

Essential requirements

• Grade 12.

• A relevant qualification in Software Development, Computer Science, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation or a related field.

• Software development experience, including experience developing or maintaining embedded software, working with SCADA applications, and using databases and SQL.

• Programming experience in one or more relevant languages, such as C, C++, C# or Python.

• Strong analytical, diagnostic and problem-solving skills.

Advantageous experience

• HMI development and PLC integration.

• Knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, CAN, EtherNet/IP, Profibus, Profinet or OPC UA.

• Experience with CODESYS or other industrial control programming platforms.

• Experience with APIs, industrial PCs or Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) applications.

• Experience assisting with commissioning and troubleshooting in industrial environments.
