Practical curiosity drives how you approach manufacturing problems, whether the answer lies in a workstation, a process, the data or the way a team works. You are analytical without losing sight of people, comfortable challenging inefficiency and able to guide others through structured problem-solving and continuous improvement.
What you'll be doing (and why you'll enjoy it)
Optimising factory layouts, production flows and material handling will be central to your work. You will establish standard times and capacity, lead Kaizen programmes, remove waste and bottlenecks, and strengthen costing through value engineering and variance analysis. The remit extends to equipment evaluations, trials, quality systems, maintenance planning, data dashboards and engineering projects managed through Microsoft Project and Microsoft Dynamics ERP. You will enjoy seeing evidence turn into safer, more reliable and cost-competitive operations.
Where you'll be doing it
Within a mining manufacturing business, operational performance depends on close cooperation between Engineering, Production, Procurement, Finance, Quality and maintenance stakeholders. Reporting to a Project Engineer, you will work across factory operations and occasionally support surface and underground trials in an environment where safety, quality, scalability and measurable improvement are closely connected.
What you'll need
A BEng in Industrial Engineering provides the essential technical foundation for this role. You will need a valid Code 8 driving licence and must be prepared to go underground for testing and trials. Strong capability in work measurement, capacity planning, process improvement, costing, quality control, project coordination and manufacturing data analysis is required. Satisfactory credit, criminal and reference checks also form part of the appointment process.
What you'll get
Breadth is the standout benefit here. You will build expertise across industrial engineering, operational systems, ISO-aligned quality and safety practices, equipment reliability and capital projects, including involvement in a structured ISO 45001 certification journey. Working hours include an early Friday finish, with occasional work outside standard hours, and company-paid accidental death and disability cover is provided.
