HVAC Technical Manager

We are looking for a hands-on HVAC professional who understands what happens in the field — from installation and commissioning through to fault-finding, repairs, refrigerant handling and warranty diagnosis — and who can translate that experience into stronger technical teams, service providers and aftermarket support.

If you hold a Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Trade Test / Red Seal or equivalent HVAC qualification , have valid SAQCC Gas registration , and have built significant experience in residential and light commercial air conditioning, this could be your next career move.

Duties & Responsibilities

Technical Support & Troubleshooting

• Provide expert technical support to internal teams, branches, distributors and approved HVAC service providers.

• Diagnose and resolve complex air conditioning and refrigeration technical faults .

• Support installation, commissioning, servicing and repair activities.

• Provide practical corrective actions for technical issues and recurring failures.

• Review technical problems and recommend effective solutions.

• Prepare and maintain technical service documentation, installation guides and technical bulletins.

• Provide technical input and technician guidance during new HVAC product introductions .

Warranty & Product Quality

• Manage the technical assessment of HVAC warranty claims.

• Ensure warranty claims are evaluated and processed according to company policies and technical requirements.

• Investigate recurring product failures and contribute to root cause analysis .

• Analyse warranty trends and recommend corrective and preventative actions.

• Work with Engineering, Product and Quality teams to identify opportunities for product and service quality improvement .

• Drive initiatives that reduce repeat technical failures and improve first-time fix rates.

Service Provider & Contractor Management

• Provide technical support to the authorised service-provider network.

• Conduct technical audits of service providers where required.

• Monitor technical performance against company service standards.

• Assist with onboarding and technical evaluation of new service providers.

• Verify that service providers maintain the required technical qualifications and certifications.

• Build strong working relationships with technicians, contractors and service partners.

Technical Training & Development

• Coordinate technical training for technicians and approved service providers.

• Identify technical skills gaps and implement appropriate training or refresher programmes.

• Coach and mentor technicians to improve technical competency and diagnostic capability.

• Maintain accurate technician training and certification records.

• Assist in developing HVAC technical training material, SOPs and technical guidelines .

• Support the development of a strong technical culture focused on quality, safety and continuous improvement.

Compliance, Safety & Technical Standards

• Ensure technical work complies with applicable South African legislation, regulations and industry standards.

• Promote safe working practices and compliance with Occupational Health and Safety requirements.

• Ensure technicians maintain valid SAQCC Gas registration where required.

• Monitor compliance with refrigerant handling, recovery and environmental requirements.

• Ensure technical activities align with applicable SAQCC Gas requirements, OHS legislation, Pressure Equipment Regulations (PER) and SANS 10147 .

• Promote consistent technical standards across branches, customer sites and service providers.

Reporting & Continuous Improvement

• Prepare monthly reports covering technical support, warranty performance, training and service activity.

• Maintain accurate technical records and documentation.

• Monitor key technical and service performance indicators.

• Track trends in technical faults, warranty claims, repeat failures and service performance.

• Identify and recommend initiatives that improve service efficiency, customer satisfaction and technical quality .

Desired Experience & Qualification

Minimum Qualifications

• Qualified Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Artisan – Trade Test / Red Seal , or an equivalent recognised HVAC technical qualification.

• Valid SAQCC Gas Registration – Authorised Refrigerant Practitioner – ESSENTIAL.

• Valid driver's licence.

• Manufacturer / OEM HVAC training or certifications will be advantageous.

Required Experience

• Minimum 5 years' experience in residential and light commercial HVAC installation, servicing and repairs.

• Minimum 2 years' experience in a technical supervisory, technical support or team-leadership position.

• Proven experience with HVAC technical fault diagnosis and troubleshooting.

• Experience assessing and managing technical warranty claims .

• Experience working with contractors, technicians and authorised service providers.

• Experience with service-management or ERP systems will be advantageous.

You should have strong working knowledge of

• Residential and light commercial air conditioning systems .

• Refrigeration principles.

• Electrical fault-finding and diagnostics.

• HVAC installation and commissioning.

• Refrigerant handling, recovery and associated procedures.
